He’s earned it. I’m sure it’s league minimum so it barely affects our cap space.

two years meaning just the balance of this year with an option for 2019-2020? I would have thought we'd lock him in for the fall and take an option for the year after that. perhaps his agent wants him to have a chance to earn more than the minimum in 2020-21.

That is my guess. A healthy compromise.

Good for him. He could really be a decent find.

This year and team option for next. That means he would be a restricted free agent after next season. If we had signed him for two more after, he would be a 4 year vet and then unrestricted.

Also, minimum salary exception contracts can only be a maximum of two years. Since we had no cap space or other exceptions, we had to have used the vet minimum exception, so this and next year was the maximum length.

was it not neccessary to make it a contract, because of the maximum days a player is allowed on the main team with a two-way?

don't know the count, but once the G-League season ends I think there is no limit so this is more about giving him a payday and locking in next year.

These plus also 2 way players are ineligible for playoff rosters. A player must be converted before then to play in the playoffs.

Expected, but still very nice. Congrats to Sumner.

I got to admit, I wasn't a believer initially. But he's made huge strides.
