Grabbing another big guard and likely putting the team in position to start Sabonis next to Turner.

Curious if people believe this is an intentional strategy, with all these teams going small is it time to start taking advantage? I'm interested in this idea personally. We've acquired big players but there's still plenty of offensive versatility and almost all these players can shoot and/or defend. I'm intrigued.

Its helpful that Philly also has gone to a bit of a big lineup too with Simmons/Richardson/Tobias/Horford/Embiid.

Man do I hate that Philly lineup.

No question that the Pacers will be one of the bigger teams.

I'm curious to see if Brogdon gets to be the full time PG. He's really been more of a wing in the past. But I guess the same thing happened with George Hill when we acquired him, that is, converted to full time PG from day 1.

I expect Vic is the primary ball handler a lot of the time. Holiday probably has a big role off the bench too.

I also won’t be surprised if we run a lot of offense through Sabonis as a facilitator in the high post. I think Brogdon’s off ball skills fit nicely with all that.

Myles makes more sense as the floor spacer, Brogdon acquisition to me indicates Sabonis as facilitator is a major part of the plan. Except now with the starting unit.

Watching the playoffs, Toronto was huge, so was Philly and Orlando. Then there is the Bucks. Most of the great playoff teams in the East were huge. Might not be a good idea to try small ball in the East right now. I listened to Pritchard talk on 1070 about shot blockers, and I see the light. When other teams see no shot blocker, it is like a layup drill to the better players. Hope Goga is the real deal, it would be huge to bring a shot blocker off the bench.

I think it was during the FA frenzy special on espn, they had Woj on to talk about the Pacers and he said KP gets calls almost on the daily about either Sabonis or Turner and they keep saying their not for trade. And those calls increased after the draft because the Pacers selected Goga. My theory is, they will try out Sabonis and Turner as starters and evaluate how the team does but I’d think the plan is to trade one of them sooner then later. If Woj is right about how much interest there is league wide in one of them then you have to think they’ll receive a offer they can’t refuse during one of these calls.

Obviously I could very well be wrong. My wife would tell you it happens often. I like every single player in that lineup but I don’t like how it meshes. Embiid wants to be in the block, Simmons in the P&R and Horford too. I just think all those pieces are going to struggle together. Plus now Harris is going to have 3s guarding him and he is going to have to guard 3s. He has really struggled at that in the past. He’s a small ball 4 to me. But I just think I’d take Butler/Reddick over who they added. Could be wrong but I think they took a step back.

I think you’re going to see Horford and Embiid both get some solid load management this season. Maybe 20 games off for Joel and 15 off for Horford. Then, when they do play in the same games, you’re likely to see them staggered quite a bit.

Basically, I think in the 50 or so games they play together, they’ll start and end games together, and otherwise be staggered, allowing Tobias to play a ton of 4 this year for them. In a full game, I agree with you. But especially when we get to the playoffs and the game slows down and becomes a slug fest, I see Philly being in a good spot.
