B/R lists Pacers as a team that’s “Absolutely Killing It in 2019 Free Agency”

Good to see the Pacers getting national recognition. It goes without saying but Kevin Pritchard has done a really good job this summer. I was one of the people worried with the Rubio rumors swirling. We got younger and more athletic. It’s only July 5th but I already can’t wait for the season to start up again!

For many years, the Indiana Pacers have appeared content with mediocrity. Forty-eight wins and a first-round exit has generally been as good as it gets for fans in Circle City during the post-Reggie Miller years (with apologies to the brief Paul George-Roy Hibbert era).

However, based on Kevin Pritchard's recent moves, that line of thinking appears defunct.

48 wins is mediocre? it's nice that he likes our summer, but our 30 year record is not ordinary or average even though we won no rings.

The author conveniently omitted the most capable Pacers team between Reggie's era and PG's era.

Technically Reggie was on the team you're referring too even though that was basically the very end, he still started (symbolically).

This "content with mediocrity" narrative is still bunk, however. Pacers have had a similar success level to the Jazz over this span and they don't get saddled with that accusation. It's closer to a "2004 Pistons" archetype than it is to a true treadmill team.

The only thing that disturbs me about our off season is losing all the vets. There is gonna be some issues due to continuity but, I think they can overcome it. I was really hoping that Thad Young would be back. I know he wanted a long term deal and wanted to be a Pacers, he told me this when I was his driver last year during training camp. I haven't talked about it much but he was really nice to me and didn't treat me like a guy who just drives his car. Which I'm not. He will be missed on the team for his leadership and his on the court play.

I think Vic's injury played into that decision.if he'd stayed healthy and we'd won 55 games last year and had advanced in the playoffs, I think the vets would be back. as it is, we're going into a development year.

I think Thad and Bogie are the only real losses on our part. DC retired, so that's that. Wes was a midseason signing. KOQ was clearly going elsewhere for a bigger role, especially after the Goga pick. We were clearly moving on from CoJo.

But I think we'll be fine. Brogdon is a very good lockerroom guy, as is Vic. Myles has been very mature since he got here and I'm sure with the new contract management would like him to take on a leadership role. Everyone of McConnell's teammates love him. I don't know about Warren, but he's a hard worker by all accounts. Same for Lamb.

Just Thad really

I know that many of us are smitten by Bogie, who turned from a relatively unknown into one of the better players on the team, but I guarantee that once the season begins and we see Warren and Lamb and Brogdon in action we'll move on from Bogie quite easily

He really isn't that special or unqiue, and what he provides the team with can easily be replaced by any of the newcomers

In fact, I feel that Warren is a better player overall, certainly a much better finisher

Thad though, gave us something that isn't easily replaced

Besides Myles, Thad is easily one of the most valuable player when it comes to defense, it's all the little things he does, the way he cleans up all the small mistakes that others make

Plus Thad is a great locker room guy, leads by example with his hustle, and he doesn't mail in games, unlike others (PG)

These are all things that any team will be hard pressed to replace

What I will remember most is all the anxiety attacks he gave me every time he tried to be a ball handler.
