Trey Lyles
Any chance we sign Lyles with the MLE? We need help at the backup forward spot and I believe Lyles can play both SF and PF. Thoughts?

No MLE since Pacers used cap space this season. Do you mean the room exception?
He doesn't have a great rep regarding work ethic, so I'm not sure he's a guy the Pacers will look at. But hey maybe the report was wrong.

Trey is likely a one year vet minimum contract kind of guy.

Re: Trey Lyles
I like Lyles. He is capable of putting up scoring numbers as a starter or off the bench in short minutes. He is better suited to play the 4 which is more of what this team needs. His timeline fits with the roster even though he may be more of a short term rotational player.

I think poor work ethic is the least thing i'm worried about if it's about bringing in one guy into the organization. Even guys like Sumner, who told the Athletic, he will be spending most of his summer in Indianapolis working with Pacers staff on his game. Pacers have build a great winning culture, as noted by TJ Warren in his press conference. They replaced departures with more hard working players who want to strive for more.
If a lack of work ethic is the reason for Lyles downfall in the NBA, then maybe even a team like the Pacers would be the perfect fit for him. One guy won't take this organization down. But being surrounded by leaders and hard working players is what he needs, that extra motivation. If you are still a lazy player after being on a team like the Pacers, you have serious issues,

It seems like the rotation is pretty full already. I expect any other move we make to be end of bench or development guys.

I think you will see another big brought in. Counting on Goga and Leaf is a huge gamble. I'm also not convinced Sumner is a rotation player.

I 100% agree. In fact, I predict McConnell wins that spot.

It would have to be he Room exception. You only get the MLE if you don't have room.

I'd give him a shot on a non-guaranteed vet minimum deal.

I would bet several teams would and that he and his agent would be picking the spot he has a chance to succeed. May or may not be here. Doubt he’d choose to take a non guaranteed deal unless it was his last chance.

Re: Trey Lyles
I'd gladly welcome Lyles here. Ex-lottery pick that needs a change of scenery and isn't even 24 years old yet. A pretty small gamble to take, especially on a cheap deal.

If McConell gets minutes over Holiday....I'm gonna go literally crazy.
But I'm scared you might be right.

you don't gift players time. they must earn it. for example, many think Tinsley was spoiled because Zeke made him the starter in training camp. no reason to go crazy if Holiday shows less than McConnell or even Sumner.

If he’s not good enough to beat out TJ McConnell then what’s the big deal?

Well, I'm a fool.
Lyles got a 2 yr/$11m deal in San Antonio. Granted, they were under a weird pressure since Marcus Morris was leaving them in a lurch after they had already dealt out Bertans to clear the MLE to sign Morris with, but still. A lot more than I thought.
