Watching the Pacers on TV this season

Post#1 » by Lazlo4D » Sat Sep 21, 2019 11:04 pm

Well the media wars seem to never end. It looks as if the FOX RSN's (Regional Sports Networks) are not returning DishTV/SlingTV this year due to greed wars. FOX RSN's end up in the hands of Sinclair broadcasting group after Disney bought Fox.

There are 12 million DishTV/SlingTV customers gone from watching the NBA on RSN's on a nightly basis. That has to affect the overall ratings for the NBA.

I love SlingTV Blue at just $ 25, same price for 5 years. (Get TBS & TNT, could care less about not having ESPN, it's mostly noise). Not paying double or triple for another service just to access Fox Sports Midwest.

Anybody know of a way to get Fox Sports Midwest ala carte or at a reasonable price.

I would bet they'll figure it out. It's a rights cost issue between Dish/Sling and Fox Sports/Sinclair. This always happens and then a deal is figured out. Deadlines spur actions. Pacers are still on Fox Sports Midwest, just on all the other suppliers. I usually watch them through a Dish subscription. I'm not too worried.

I had Sling a couple years ago, they did a beta test on a package that I got on early for $20 a month but I gave it up when I moved in May 2018. I freaking hate Dish Network those Joey's they have are garbage.

I think you can get the NBA ticket through Sling but the Nationally broadcast games are blacked out. I'll check and see if you can get the Fox Sports app on a Fire Stick and if the games are on there.

I have Xfinity right now, but I'm moving again in a month or 2 so I may have to do something else myself.

Lazlo do you live in the Indianapolis area? Hulu plus live TV has Fox sports Indiana and FS Indiana plus, FS Ohio as well as, Channel 4, 6 and 59 as part of their package, with about 35 other channels.

It's more expensive than SlingTV at $44.99. By the time you pay for a decent speed internet you might be able to get a similar deal out of Xfinity.

Where did you hear SlingTV is dropping the Regional sports? I just looked at their site and it looks like they do offer the Pacers games.

Ok more info on this, it looks like what slingTV has done is to offer the NBA teams games plus NBA TV as an add on package to your basic blue or Orange package. It appears to cost $17.99 a month extra. SlingTV was considerably less expensive than the other streaming services. So they are making up for it now. Look at this link.

https://www.sling.com/channels/Indiana-Pacers

Update on this they have a special offer of 40% off their packages making it $15 for Blue or Orange or $25 for both. I'd get the blue then add either the Pacer games or the full NBA season pass. If you want to watch more than just pacers games.

I've never had an issue with Dish. But, they are about to lose me. I was going to wait until it got closer to Pacers season to make a move (out of conveinance) but now they have taken away FS1 and BTN. Crucial during CFB season.

I suggest a trial on any internet TV. we tried and abandoned Sling because of bad picture quality on sports. they also said they had IU but while they had the right channel the games weren't on. this was a couple of years ago and may have changed.

one thing I did learn here on the north side, I couldn't get channel 4 with a good antenna but I can get channel 29 out of Kokomo which is a simulcast of the same programming.

Anyone heard an update on FSI and Dish? About a week away from the season and if I need to make a move I need to make it soon.

My personal take on this is Dish/SlingTV have decided not enough of their subscribers are fervent about sports to warrant the cost increases carrying the regional sports networks brings. They don't seem likely to reduce their prices due to the loss of those channels either. The satellite TV companies turned out to be more like the cable companies than they have ever wanted to admit.

I had SlingTV at one time, but had too many problems with it, so I've gone with YTTV (YouTubeTV) since then. Yeah, it costs a bit, but it has everything I want in the way of channels, DVR and on-demand content, so it works for me.

I have a real dislike for cable companies in general, but in your case you might be able to snag a one-year deal at a nice discount as a "new customer". You might want to call whomever the cable provider in your area is and see what they offer.

That is where I think I'm going. Of course as long as the boss of the house approves.

When is the last time the NBA had 12 million viewers at one time? Ever happen? Even using all the avenues to receive the games?

I feel your pain, but I think you are really overestimating the numbers for Dish/Sling subscribers. I would doubt they have even half that number. On top of that, you have to consider maybe only a total of ten percent (likely less) of their subscribers are actually NBA fans. That takes the total impact down quite a bit. All of us crazy fans are a small minority in the big picture.

I my neck of the woods were more upset about losing Cardinal games than they will be about the PAcers.

I like things about YTTV that most people probably wouldn't think about. For example, I like watching BBC World News, and BBCA for Doctor Who. They also have COZI TV. What is that, you ask? That is how I get to re-watch all the old Colombo and Rockford Files episodes. I'm a bit of an old fart, so I enjoy seeing those again. I think stuff like that is much better than a lot of today's shows.

I didn't get to look last night. But a buddy told me that dish has reached an agreement with the regional fox sports networks. Just in time! Can't wait for Wednesday!

They aren't listing the Fox Sports Regionals on the sling website as of this morning, so I don't know what to tell you. You would think they would get those on their listings quickly if they have been added back to the line up.

I'm definitely not seeing that news publicized. Sinclair Media (these goombas: https://theconcourse.deadspin.com/how-americas-largest-local-tv-owner-turned-its-news-anc-1824233490), who bought up the soon to be re-branded Fox Regional Sports networks in the whole Disney buyout of Fox, agreed to a deal yesterday with AT&T, so DirecTV, AT&T TV and U-Verse all will carry the networks, while DISH has not agreed, and is talking as if they're digging in for a possibly permanent standoff.

I think SlingTV has given up the ghost on multiple fronts. In addition to removing the regional sports networks, they have (it seems) also given up on adding any more local channels. For some time now, they have instead offered new customers a deal on a very weak indoor antenna as a way for those people to get locals. By the way, good luck with that small indoor antenna. A person would have a better chance with old style "rabbit ears" than that thing.

It would not surprise me to see them be reduced to a third or fourth choice for cord-cutters.

And yes, Sinclair is a steaming pile of you-know-what.
