Pre-Season Games
Anybody paying attention to these? I pulled up the box score at work this morning just to check in and was treated to seeing the gamecast of TJ Warren hitting a game tying 3 followed by Turner blocking a shot at the buzzer. If TJ Warren's shooting has really gone to this level then I think we really made the right move bringing him in as the Bojan replacement. Anybody actually watch the game and have feedback other than box-score watching like I'm doing? It's nice to see Turner dominating the boards.

I'm a big TJ fan and hopefully their is a replay. I didn't realize this was on or I would have recorded it. His scoring ability is so exciting to watch. The fact he added the 3 at such a high rate (top 10 in % last year) is nice....I think his shooting will stay solid...maybe not at the % from 3 as last year but at least 38-40%. He REALLY worked on it last offseason.
Even before he added the 3, his touch from mid range on in was sometimes unbelievable..he just has a knack for getting the ball in the basket.

I didn't see it live, but I did watch a replay on Youtube. Usually those highlight compilations don't catch the real feel of a game, but for this game it was fairly intense.
Warren looking pretty promising.

Re: Pre-Season Games
I watched most of it, with a short interruption part way through. The new guys all looked good (those who played anyway), but I don't want to put too high of expectations on them after only one game. Without a doubt, the team is now more athletic than last year, and I did catch myself thinking that some of last year's guys would never have made some of the plays this years team was making. On the other hand, we must have been called for traveling about ten times. I know the NBA is placing an emphasis on that call this year, but still.... just too many. Some of our returnees showed they may still not be ready for prime-time (Holiday and Sumner in particular).
All in all, a good game for the team to get under its belt, and they gave a glimpse of their character with the comeback. Most of the tickets were given to school age kids, and I'm sure they will remember this game for a long time.

I had it on but I was working and mostly heard audio. Should've just turned on radio. Tomorrow they'll be on again.
They are replaying it tonight on FoxIN.

I still can't believe Suns gave away Warren for nothing. You can expect him to put up good scoring numbers almost every game. Tony Buckets knows how to get buckets.

Re: Pre-Season Games
I hope Warren can keep his shooting. He needs to work on his defense though. His arms are almost always late when contesting a jumper.
I like the balance of the team. No real playmaker almost the entire game but movement without the ball was excellent thus resulting to many of Brogdon's assists. Not to mention Domas who is pretty solid in reading movements. Pick and roll game is pretty strong too. If Myles can sustain having a tough guy mentality, this team would work.

Re: Pre-Season Games
I think this season Domas is going to turn into a legitimate offensive threat, like most of us know he is capable of
On the other hand, I'm quite concerned about the lack of heart, or effort, or whatever you call it, displayed by the newcomers; take a look here
At 2:38, you can see Myles in trouble, but Lamb, Warren, and Brogdon were all just standing there looking at him
You can see that Myles put in a lot of effort trying to save that possession, but no one else appeared to be willing to help bail him out
This is the kind of thing that won't happen with Thad, and also Vic, on the floor

Re: Pre-Season Games
2nd game wasn't close. I wouldn't worry too much about new guys in first game. it takes time to learn how to play together.

Scoring isn’t, nor has ever be the question with Warren. What isn’t a question though is just how terrible Warren is defensively. Yikes! Absolutely lost in space, can’t read screens and just downright unusable defensively. The other question is health. He usually misses 20 or more games a year.
He is what we thought he was so far. Luckily the long range shooting looks like it may be sustainable in at least the 36+% range, which is good to see.

I thought the way they played together in both games was a pleasant surprise. Not at all like they had just recently become 'mates. I think we simply have a lot of guys who "know how to play the game" as they say.
Also, in this second game, Holiday and Sumner looked much better than they did in the first game. Ball movement, and player movement, has been pretty good so far. Better than last year. Domas and Myles look like they have given a good amount of work to their spacing too.

Re: Pre-Season Games
I didn't realize the games were on but heard Hammer and Nigel talking about it Friday on WIBC. Close game on the 4th and then the Pacers stomped them on the 5th.

Talking about the first game? You don't overcome a 21 point deficit without a certain amount of heart or effort. I'd say they showed a good deal of both.

Caught the first half of game 2. Was most impressed by Edmund Sumner and Aaron Holiday. Nice to see after what we didn’t see from either in the Summer League.

Yes I was talking about the first game, specifically about what happened at the 2:38 mark of the YouTube video I posted
Myles was struggling to maintain possession of the ball, but Lamb, Warren, and Brogdon were just standing there looking at Myles, letting whatever was going to happen happen, Myles even tried to pass the ball but none of them would bail him out, they were just standing there and watching

Re: Pre-Season Games
I watched most of the two games (whole second game, second quarter and OT in the first game) and I'm quite pleased with what I've seen so far.
TJ Warren and Jeremy Lamb have shown good scoring ability and Malcolm Brogdon has shown the ability to get us into our offense sets and read the floor.
Domas and Myles looked good but they need more chemistry together.
JaKarr Sampson has also look like an NBA player. Not a starter or a 6th-7th man, of course, but good enough to play the role that KOQ played last year.
Alize, Sumner and Aaron have shown both encouraging and discouraging signs which is nothing surprising coming from young guys that have yet to carve a big role in the team.
Brimah has shown that he can block shots and I'm all for keeping him as a deep bench guy in case of emergency.
Justin Holiday looked good enough for a depth wing.
TJ McConnell did what a 3rd PG is supposed to do.
All in all, I'm very happy that I can watch the Pacers again and I can't wait for the next game

I think you're past 15. Sampson was a surprise. I expect Brimah is playing for a shot in Fort Wayne as he's certainly behind Sampson. Boone and Mitrou-Long are the two ways although of course one could be dropped.

Correct. Brimah is outside the roster completely and would require waiving someone (Sampson?) to fit on the roster. He’s clearly destined to be the center of Ft Wayne.

Re: Pre-Season Games
Was able to catch the 2nd game but missed the first due to work. My biggest takeaway is that Brogdon seemed to do fine guarding PGs, which was a knock on him per Bucks fans. He's not a prime George Hill, but he was able to stay in front of Fox most of the time who is one of the quickest guys in the league.
Not that it comes as a surprise, but I think the coaching staff will figure out how to keep the defense solid even with the new additions who may not be that great on that end.

True, we're past 15. The Mad Ants do need a Center, though, and I think he'd be a good fit there
