I do think I would prefer Atkinson to D'Antoni, but I think both would be an upgrade to what we had before.

Looks like the Nets stole my idea and have hired Steve Nash as their coach.

I tell you, I have a Woj tweet alert setup on my phone and saw the first part of "Steve Nash agrees to contract to coach..." and the preview cut off and my heart skipped a beat. I thought you nailed it!

Sorry, I kind of beat you to it ;)

Topofthekey wrote:Maybe Steve Nash, does he want to be an assistant coach?

Not specifically to develop Myles, more like for the team's offense in general

Interesting hire for Brooklyn. If Tillman wants a new coach in Houston, then D'Antoni may not have a ton of suitors (if he is indeed the front offices target). Iirc the remaining teams with a vacancy are lotto teams which he's likely not looking to coach.

Edit: forgot about Philly, though they're linked to Lue right now. D'Antoni could be a good fit there.

Rockets are still in the playoffs. Spurs and others are out. No hire suggests we have a reason to wait to interview someone still coaching.

Chauncey Billups is also making it known that he is ready for a head-coaching job.

Article says he WAS interested in joining Tyron Lue as an assistant, but I think he's actually got more significant knowledge than Lue.

What's clear is that they're looking for a coach with the stylings of a Nick Nurse. Nurse, who led the Toronto Raptors to the 2019 NBA championship in his first season as a head coach, is known for pushing the envelope on both sides of the ball. He'll also take time to bond personally with each of his players. And he'll get it done in much shorter practice sessions, too.

J.Michael from Indystar with some more good info. Touches on what we're looking for, a little on the locker room issues, and a little on why Miami being up 2-0 on Milwaukee doesn't change anything.

Good article. Hints that Oladipo was leader when injured but Brogdon was on his return. Perhaps never accepted that.

That is so sad then, if indeed the issue sprang from Vic not willing to relinquish his role as leader

Vic just seemed like such a drama-free and likeable guy

Of course, Reggie Miller would be at the top of my list.

But a few others...
Jalen Rose
Mike Brown (former NBA HC and GS asst the last 4 years)
Shaka Smart (Texas HC)
Juwan Howard (MI HC)

Chauncey Billups is an interesting guy, too.

Meh. We’re getting some glimpses, but we’re all just leaping to assumptions without knowing how we might possibly have gotten there.

And also, it just may have been tough for him to have had such a devastating injury and return to see the team moved on, and he was not yet ready to come back full strength and show that he should be the center of it.

If anybody can get Ben Simmons to shoot 3s, it might be D'Antoni.

"Either you shoot 3s or I'm playing you at center."

I've seen people claim that our roster is not suited for Mike D'Antoni's style of play, but it is at least twice as good for it as Philadelphia. MDA wants to play power forwards at center, not point guard. Sabonis and Turner is easy to put together on the court compared to a lineup of Embiid, Horford, Harris, and Simmons. Ideally, that's two centers and two power forwards in today's league. Even if they trade Embiid for a point guard, it's still less run and gun than we have.

Don't hate it. Spo is one of the top coaches in the league year in and year out. Been learning from him for a long time.

Udoka and Billups would be my top choices...

I'm not doubting your choices, but can you tell me why? What do you think each one would bring to the team?

In the interest of full disclosure, I don't know much at all about Udoka, but really enjoyed watching Billups as a player.

And Spoelstra's been endorsing Craig for some time now. Hope he can give KP some tidbits on Pat Riley's mindset too.

He's been with the Heat since 2003 though. I'd hate for him to start recruiting for the Heat. I know it doesn't make any sense for anyone to do something like that. But it just feels like inviting in a trojan horse
