Doug McDermott
What do you guys think his value is to the Pacers? He seems like a guy who could be a target for the Warriors with their Disabled Players Exception for Klay. They desperately need shooting, and the Salary / Contract length matter.
Would you give him up for just salary relief? Not sure if this would impact the Hayward pursuit.

He’s useful and valuable, but replaceable with Justin Holiday re-signing.
If we are to make a deal for Hayward, both Boston and Indy would need to clear some cap, so a McDermott to either Golden State or Philly into their respective TPE or DPE could prove valuable. Would likely want the Minnesota 2nd from you, or Knicks 2nd from Philly? Or 2-3 low value 2nds to be split somehow.

Re: Doug McDermott
When Lamb is available, we could move him or Doug. We don't really need both as we have plenty of backup wings.

Is the TPE still available for use?
Would Warriors do something like TJ Warren + Doug for Wolves 2021 FRP?
The TPE isn't big enough to absorb both players, so we can split it into two trades
1. Warren into TPE for Wolves 2021 FRP
2. Doug for salary filler (Looney)

I might but if you'd send back a lower priced backup 4 that'd be even better. Have to be cheap enough to get us out of tax.

Warriors used the bigger TPE on Oubre so that is gone. But if they get the disabled player exception (league has to approve) it is for almost 10M, and can be used to either sign a player for 1 year, or trade for a guy with only 1 yr left on the deal.
McDermott makes a lot of sense considering the need for shooting, and the positional fit.
I think a 2nd rounder may be fine. Not sure what else we have that would be of value. The Warriors current backup 4s (Chriss/ Looney/Paschall) all play important roles, and I don’t think they would give them up. They need to add depth, and can’t take any away.

Most of it was used on Oubre. But they will have a Disabled Player Exception for Klay Thompson which is about 1/2 his salary. I'd give them Lamb and a 2nd or 2 if he's healthy. I like Doug but if moving either helps with the salary situation I'd consider it.

I think Doug will be easier to move than Lamb. No injury concern and he has an expiring contract. I like Doug but I want to see more of Sumner and to get out of tax land

Re: Doug McDermott
Ideally, Lamb comes back right at the start of the season and rehabilitates his value
We then ship both Doug and Lamb off for some positive assets
Two benefits to that, one, we cut some salary and avoid paying tax
Two, we open up more playing time for Aaron and Sumner, and we might even get a Cassius sighting or two
We still have a reliable vet in Justin, so I think we can afford to lose both Doug and Lamb

Re: Doug McDermott
Looking around the league at the contracts that one dimensional shooters got this offseason, and McDermott should have solid positive value.
Lamb, albeit a useful player, isn’t a specialist in anything and is a MLE level contract for 2 more years. Even without the injury, he’d always be one of those “he’s more valuable to us on court than he is in trade value” kind of guys. I don’t see him returning positive value, at best, unless you’re taking back a bad contract in return.

GS, yes. They’ll likely have the DPE, and they’ve got the Minnesota 2nd next year in what’s widely believed to be a deep and talented draft.
Okc? I don’t see it. I think they’d want us to pay them to absorb him, and I simply think that Doug is talented enough that contenders would value having him in the playoffs.
Another team is Philly. They’ll have a TPE big enough for him and they also have the Knicks 2nd next year, that I think they’d ultimately pay to surround Simmons/Embiid with more shooting.

Considering what Bertans got, I'd say Doug's contract is an absolute bargain
I'd want more than a good 2RP for him

If you’re willing to take back salary for him, I think you could get a 1st. But then you also have to pay to dump a Leaf to get under the tax too.

OKC fans expect them to demand payment but they need to fill out a roster and they are below the payroll minimum so they lack leverage. Still they could be starting a process and not care about wins this year.
But I agree Warriors are more likely. A one year deal for a shooter with Klay out makes a lot of sense.

Being below league minimum is no worry. They just cut a check to whomever is on their roster to split the difference. Otherwise, they could sign anyone to enough money to fill it out at any time. They absolutely have leverage in that they’re one of the few teams to have the means to absorb salary without sending anything back.

It is like playing with house money. It costs you the same to pay someone or no one.

We managed to move Leaf so Doug will be here at least this year. More if neither Sumner nor Stanley move around him.

Re: Doug McDermott
If we were to trade Doug, I think it's better to do it sooner rather than later
His value decreases as the season progresses, as teams find other ways to address their needs
I would be open to sending him to the Warriors for one or two 2RP if there isn't a better deal available
Between him, Justin, Lamb when he returns, and Aaron and Sumner, there's something of a logjam at the 2 and 3
Ideally, we only need 1 or at most 2 of Doug, Justin, and Lamb

They have a 2021 2nd from Minn that might be a nice thing to have. I like Doug but might part with him for that 2nd.
