I mentioned something like this one or two years back, but I think it's even clearer now
We may not realize it, but 3/5 of the team's starting positions are currently being manned by players who could end up being all time franchise players at their respective positions
Myles is probably the best Center the Pacers had in the last 30 years or so. Same probably goes for Domas at PF, although Jermaine O'neal may have something to say about that. Brogdon is definitely the best Pacers PG since I can remember
Which makes one wonder
If a team is fielding the best players they have in franchise history for 3/5 of their starting lineup, shouldn't they be a contender?
If they aren't, what is wrong?
Shouldn't this be regarded as a historic opportunity?
Current squad is 3/5 of Pacers All-Time team?

Oh, you’re just really into a recency bias. Myles is still behind a Rik Smits. Roy Hibbert had a top notch prime, though Myles is probably about neck and neck with him right now, and clearly heading ahead of him. Brogdon may end up heading towards that avenue, but just recently, Mark Jackson was a premiere type PG in the league, and with the Pacers. Jermaine was still better than either Myles or Sabonis right now, but that could change down the road. JO was a legit MVP contender. Best in the last 15 years, yeah. There’s a lot of guys in that category, probably, or really competing for it.
And we haven’t even begun to talk about the ABA days. Roger, George, Mel, Freddie, and so many more.
But also, we’re missing two of our starters. Two guys that are supposed to be key players toward a contending team. And we’re still 9-7 and currently a half game out of 2nd in the East. I’m not terribly concerned.
