A win that the Wizards didn't need, probably

Yup. Terrible defensive rotations, no backside rebounding, and Justin and Levert were having a ton of trouble hitting anything.

I figured this would be an easy win. Guess I shouldn't have assumed.

Keeping an eye on the standings with the Heat.

It's not just Brogdon

TJ has the same problem as well. Despite him getting all those highlight steals, TJ isn't actually very good on defense. Gives up way too many drives, and then doesn't switch in time

He's the PG version of the big who gets a lot of highlight blocks but isn't actually a very good defender

Watch on YouTube

At around 1:36 in that clip

You can see that the opponent's ball handler (Westbrook in this case) managed to get past Brogdon

Myles does what he could and closed in on Westbrook to help

And then it's the same old story all the time

Met by Myles, Westbrook simply finds an open Hachimura for an easy basket

Brogdon should have switched to Hachimura and let Myles deal with Westbrook at the rim

But he didn't, so Wizards got an easy basket

This happens a lot with the Pacers, and not just with Brogdon, it happens a lot with TJ as well. I think it might have already gotten to a point where opponents are actively hunting for this type of lapse in Pacers defense

Either Myles needs to up his defensive game to a superhuman level where he can somehow cover both Westbrook and Hachimura in that type of sequence, or Pacers just need to learn to play better team defense and learn to help Myles back when Myles is helping them

Yup. Very little rotation defensively, and slow when it does happen. Have to wonder if the extreme amount of minutes is what kills them.

Or if it is lack of practice or lack of defensive coaching since there's a new staff of assistants ?
