Basketball has really been depressing for me over the years.
I'm 36 years old.
I miss my childhood Knicks of the 1990s (deeply).
Pat Riley.
John Starks.
Charles Oakley.
Anthony Mason (rip).
Patrick Ewing (#33).
Spike Lee (Roses for #31 lol!)
"Cheryl, Cheryl, Cheryl" lol.
Then later on...
JVGundy.
Ward/Childs.
H20 Houston.
Sprewell.
LJ.
Camby.
Ewing (old man Pat).
Any of you Indiana Pacers fans also miss our Knicks/Pacers rivalry days of the 90's? Or is it just me?
Reggie Miller I absolutely hated (ugh).
Rick Smits I couldn't stand.
The DAVIS brothers got under my NY skin.
Derrick heavy D McKey annoyed me as a kid.
Travis Best I wanted to spit @ for some reason.
Coach Larry Brown (I liked him).
• I FEARED Jordan and the Bulls (eliminated us every single freaking time).
• I disliked Zo and the Heat (but we DOMINATED them 3-1 during playoffs).
✓ Nothing compared to my hatred of everything Indiana as a kid from the S. Side of Queens. The Pacers I absolutely hated (my best friend from NYC don't ask how was a diehard Pavers fan and all he wanted to do when we played basketball was shoot 3's I wanted to freaking strangle him after Pacers wins because he'd come knocking on our door not even 5 minutes later to mush my face).
Fun fact.
NY/Indiana split 3-3 throughout 6 heated rivalries (I believe two game 7's splitting 1-1).
NY went 3-0 with Mark Jackson.
Indy went 3-0 with Mark Jackson.
Mark Jackson was the NY/INDY series UNSUNG HERO (6-0).
God I hated his stupid little SHIMMY SHAKE!
Anyone else deeply miss those NYC vs INDY wars?
20+ years later I've always wondered. Always asked myself. How did those Indiana fans REALLY FEEL about my NY Knicks?
It'll be cool to finally, know.
(Peace and 1 love).
That's when. Basketball was GREATNESS.

Re: From an NY Knicks Fan.
Hicks versus Knicks. good years for us but Pacer fans memories of the rivalry always start with the rumor that the lottery was fixed when you got the first pick and took Ewing. some said the corner of you card was bent. some said it had been in a freezer. I tend not to ever believe conspiracy theories but the story never went away. and then there was the playoff game you stole on the phantom 4 point play.
and if you asked the late Slick Leonard about the rivalry, he probably would have started with the exhibition game when we'd been ABA champs. we were winning solidly until Slick pulled the starters early in the 4th quarter and let the Knicks come back for the win. it was a statement game,

I enjoyed hating the Knicks and I look forward to hopefully doing it again soon. That 4 point play Wizop mentioned is a clear memory for me even two decades later. If the Pacers bounce back under Carlisle and the Knicks keep it up under Thibs, it's entirely possible that we start getting real playoff hate going as early as next season.

Re: From an NY Knicks Fan.
You guys wanna complain about LJ's 4 point play?
Cry me a Mississippi river!
8 points in under 9 seconds? Talk about heartbreaking for me as a kid I wanted to cry. Greatest NBA comeback of All-Time NYers had to witness
On a side note I respect legends like John Stockton, Reggie Miller and Patrick Ewing. 0 rings combined but never ran to one another in defeat in order to suck each other off just to say they "won" a ring. Those guys had too much heart, respect, pride, ego and love for the game to cheat it by joining forces together.
C: Patrick Ewing.
SG: Reggie Miller.
PG: John Stockton.
Sorry. But MJ23 would've retired with 0 rings.
If MJ went 0-2 vs Boston and 1-3 vs Detroit? He goes 0-20 against Stockton/Reggie/Ewing and not even Pippen/Rodman would've been able to save him.
Guy's like LeBron, K.D, Harden, Kyrie, A.D, Kawhi, CP3, Paul George etc have all tried to ruin the game we once loved and thankfully the likes of Kobe Bryant, Tim Duncan, Greek Freak, Joker, Dame Lillard and Steph Curry have all been here to save it. I respect those kids so much now.

Re: From an NY Knicks Fan.
I remember those years well and it was definitely a heated piss you off kind of rivalry. My son and I went to one of the playoff games with no tickets and almost got a pair. All of a sudden there were just a few people scalping and the price doubled face value. We walked away sad we couldn’t get in but when we heard the Knicks were thumping us we were so glad we didn’t spend the money to watch a beat down at home. I couldn’t stand the smirky face of John Starks. Hated Ewing ! Was sooo pissed about the phantom 4 point play. I felt that was one of the greatest examples of either a referee or the league seizing the moment to ensure the Knicks could go into OT or win. I didn’t mind Spike Lee because I thought he was just a super fan clown. I hated Jordan’s dominance although he was great. Always felt like he was beating us with a cast of so so players which wasn’t really true.

I so agree with you about the star arranged power teams. I’m ok with a GM putting together a star studded team because that’s their job. For top players to conspire or collude to get an unfair advantage to win a prize coveted by all players makes me sick. I could live with the Yankees buying talent because it was an owner or management shaping the super team not a superstar player putting the team together. Of course I was a Reds fan and they beat the Yankees regardless lol

I agree, and join you, in your dislike of Super Teams. But I would point out a couple things as far as the players you hold up as refusing to go that route.
Kobe dictating where he would play when he was drafted. Not the same thing, but the Lakers did have quite a history before him.
Steph didn't have to join a Super Team because the Warriors continually have built one around him. So in his case, the party was being held at his house.

It has done my heart good to see the Nets and Clippers both hit the ditch. Love it!

Gotta disagree with you about Steph man.
All 3 of Steph, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green are homegrown kids all drafted by Golden State.
And before K.D ever arrived? Golden State already won an NBA Championship with Steph, Klay and Draymond
and before K.D arrived the following season? Golden State broke the Bulls regular season record or 72-10 going 73-9 while eliminating KD too.
The next season? What Durant did was cowardly.
K.D ran to Golden State after losing to them and after they were already proven Champions (and it made guys like Steph, Klay and especially DRAYMOND GREEN pissed they freaking hated KD there and never wanted him to begin with).

Well said couldn't agree more.
I'm actually a TB Rays fan moved to St. Pete Florida in 1998 the first year they became a baseball team (didn't like baseball as a kid just Knicks and Jets) and I absolutely love how we've been better than Yankees over the years as big-time underdogs so proud of my TB Rays kids.
I think MLB is a bull crap league. They should have a salary cap like NBA and NFL because then Yankees fans would know the feeling of having a losing season.
PS: Why doesn't the state of Indiana have an MLB team to love? You guys are great fans of Pacers, Colts and especially your Indiana Hoosiers. I think it's horse crap how states of NY, Florida, California, Illinois and PA all have multiple teams but fans from Indy, Iowa, Alabama and Kentucky etc can't even have 1.

So glad the Clippers, Lakers, and Nets are out. I respect the job Atlanta has done putting together their team. Hoping Phoenix takes it all though !

As an NYK fan from Queens I still consider the Nets as New Jersey I absolutely hate them being here. If they ever win a Championship before the Knicks? It's going to dishearten our loyal msg fan base.
Pacers haven't won a championship since ABA (1973) and Knicks not since the 1972-1973 season;
Be proud of the fact we're loyal fans without having to root for a "big 3".
Now thinking back? Would've been cool to see Reggie Miller come to my Knicks because Reggie Miller/Patrick Ewing = better than Michael Jordan/Scottie Pippen but casual fans wouldn't comprehend. #33 always lacked a true Superstar because Starks/Oakley/Mason were good role players but far from Superstars or even perennial All-stars. Same for Reggie Miller. Rick Smits? Only 1 All-star @ 7'4? Come on man (great role player though) but imagine Ewing in Indiana fir Reggie?
Actually. I take it back. I'm glad they didn't run to NY/Indy. They played the game the right way.
Reggie Miller and Patrick Ewing are bigger CHAMPIONS than Paul Peirce, K.G, Ray Allen, LeBron Queen James, K.D, A.D and/or Bosh could ever dream of becoming and can't no "piece of jewelery" change that.
Reggie and Pat actually left behind a legacy I over saw Shaq CRY on National TV when he heard the name Patrick Ewing. Ewing was his hero and I bet Reggie was Steph's.
I know Greek Freak is your Milwaukee rival but I want him to win it all to one day laugh at Le'Bron and K.D @ SF. Greek Freak fell in love with his Milwaukee city. Kid is so loyal man. Never left their fans behind to come to NY or LA. Pacers fans or not you've gotta love and respect that kid man. Only 26 and winning the 1990s old-school throwback way. LeBron "won" his first ring @ 28 after leaving his hometown Cleveland/Akron behind to such off both Bosh and an already champion Wade for South beach.
Fk these trio teams I hate them and if Knicks ever sign Kawhi and then trade for Dame while throwing away Quickley, RJ, Obi and Mitchell Robinson and draft picks for a 31 year old Dame? I'll quit on basketball and my childhood Knicks forever I rather die and never win than to live and witness cheating.

I think you mis-understood what I was saying. Perhaps I just said it poorly. Your line I've quoted was what I meant by the party being at Steph's house. They surrounded him with talent (through the draft, as you say) and developed their own Super Team.
