Re: Nòmades Indianos. Ghost Bandwagon. The New Deal.

Post#21 » by El Hespiritu » Sun Feb 13, 2022 9:15 pm

TimberTrolls have been consistently disfunctional since KG was traded to BOS saving a brief Butleri-Thibodian hiatus.
RRubio come-back barely worked to unprotect his pick (GSW took it) but settled the foundations for a less ludicrous Wolves.

This Season's TimberTrolls are no joke.

They play tough defense, aggressive defense, at times reckless defense.
So the offense got automatically better (Top-3 NBA attacks).

They are a dangerous mad wolf.

Image

Fortunately, they have been a bit less focused guarding his paint of late... we can hurt them more attacking the rim than raining threes.
If we could protect our own paint in the process... but maybe that's asking too much.

After trailing double digits, we managed to cut the bleeding a bit

TimberTrolls 72 - Indianos 64
First Half.

This TimberTrolls 129 - Indianos 120 was a good game as well.
Surprisingly good from IND point of view:

TimberTrolls are a made team: they know their game, they know each other and didn't touch s*it during Deadline.
We're playing just the 2nd game with a brand new roster and a brand new style.

And looked pretty tied.

Again, clutch time is work in progress but all of the rest looked hopeful enough.

There are apparently some reasons to feel optimism about the future.
The sun begins to shine.

Image

I'm enjoying the games. Despite the Ls, Indiana has becoming a fun team to watch.

I found myself uncomfortable switching band wagons in the middle of the season.
I strongly sustain is a bad idea to force a player to abandon a team once Late Pre Season is over, even if NBA market loves it.
Same for fans... even band wagoner fans.

I can take it when there's a whole NBAless Summer to emotionally get used to it but not in the spot.

So I decided to quit trying.

From now on, I will support unconditionally both RRubio teams this season:

-CLECaus
-INDianos

Image
(While of course still keeping an eye on TimberTrolls, Utroll Jazz and Black Troll Suns)
(Wouldn't go so far as to say I'll keep an eye on OKC... Ricky barely passed by)
(But I make no promises).
Hawks are apparently getting into the mood after a dubious Late pre Season.
We know Trae is dangerous and Capela strong... but we can handle that.
We're faster than them and they like to play uptempo as well... no B plan.

I have good sensation fot tonight's game.

(Mmmh... Are we actually playing against Hawks, tonight?... I feel like I'm missing something...)

I knew I was missing something.

Double band wagoning is messy.

Now I should edit my post on Cleveland thread scouting MIL for tonight's game but I guess they'll understand.
They are more used to it.

No idea what Witchers stuff actually is.

I know they were showing chemistry issues despite a good season start. I guess IND could tell a similar story not so many years ago.
Before they re-tooled the roster in the Deadline they were a tough team... at times bit messy but often tough.

Dweediwindy (whatever) and Montrollzel were major pieces but apparently not too determinant into the systems or locker-room balance.
So I expect them to keep being messy but tough waiting for a major sample.

Kristap Porn DNP... will not play 'til post-AS.
Same for Black Jap. Shame; I like this guy.
Beal and Gafford still out as well.

Ish Smith is deceptive. Maybe doesn't look the big thing but he can actually impact the game under radar.
Deni Avdija has legit talent. Don't you mind his so-so stats. If he ignites, he's unstoppable. Luckily he's often cold.

We all know KCP and Kuzma for bad or good.

This Witchers full force should be a force to reckon.... unstable but powerful.
As they are tonight they are vulnerable.
They stepped over Pistons last night but we all know Pistons are tanking.

Are we?

Watched game against OKC replayed.
Entertaining.

It will be small ball.
Not that current available roster gives Carlisle many other options but I guess he likes it as well.

I see they slowed the pace consistently game after game since Halihield joined. They run full speed when there's a chance for fast break, otherwise they play half court systems taking its time... Brogdon's return contributed to that.

I guess Carlisle will insist on the three guards lineup turning the traditional back court pair into a trio.
Looks more functional on defense with Stephentroll in because someone needs to lean a hand to our (not-so) Bigs.

On the offense it's intriguing stuff.

Glimpses of a best case scenario, with Hali-Hield-Brogdon playing three entire different approaches to the point guard position and confusing OKC defense with that versatility plus Lance, who has an approach that should be named after him because no one else have it at all.
Glimpses of a worst case scenario with designed set plays crashing noisily against players' flow-oriented mentality, constant ups and downs and dependence of individual streaks of He can't miss a shoot! following right after by He can't score to save his children's live!

It was funny... at times weird but funny.

What I liked the more is they tried to play smart collective defense. They struggle to keep the focus on that the whole game but when they get it, looks good whoever is at court whether zone, double team on SGA or switch-it-all defense.

Addendum: Trying to learn faces and names from the roster... still not there but I'm feeling I'll end up loving Brisset.

Still watching games replayed... I'd rather prefer live but european time lag is The Evil.

I just finished TimberTrolls vs BeardTroel (I foresee PHI's officiating will be a new kind of show this season).
Now I'm facing INDianos vs Gaelics and CLECaus vs Witchers.
And then, Mormontrolls vs both DALukita & Black Troll Suns

Image

I watch all of the games of teams I'm band wagoning and try keeping an eye on ex-band wagoned teams plus others who get some players personal favorites of mine..
Got worse when RRubio isn't there and worst of the worst since I decided to root for two teams same season.

A collateral damage has been I can nor listening Podcasts neither keep at pace with anime season any longer... I even drastically reduced my SSMM and Internet Forums activity and totally vanished my Sci/Fi-Fantasy reading and my amateur academics on Ancient History and Philology.

You need to be picky with your fandom or you'll never get a Real Life.
Being a Hikikomori helps, of course.

I finally saw the games replayed.

After these bunch of games since you bought RRubio's contract, I feel I have enough elements to give my first impression about the guys:

Impressive W at Massachussets. They got under JayJays' skin and mentally pushed BOS out of the game.
This Halihielgdon triple PG axis looks too good considering they barely played two games together.

If it's actually sustainable.... this could be in the future one of the most sophisticated mass-destruction small weapon of the entire League.
Sorta reverse CLECaus BigBall trio.

The three of them can shoot long range, can dribble and attack the rim and can pass.
But they are sooo different:
ImageImageImage
Malcom is all about brains and game-reading: the most pure PG out of them.
Hield is all about feelings, aggressiveness and self-confidence from deep.
Haliburton is probably the most naturally talented... he can't still match Brogdon's IQ and leadership at court but he's showing a great attitude and learning capacity to became a Top Level Team Commmander some day. He's now a high level guard with only 21.
ImageImage
Duarte mixed well with any of them coming from the bench to keep the triplet of guards the same impactful and Duane was modestly holding the ground.

Improvised Bigs rotation but working smoothly so far.
Image
Brisset looks pretty immune to mismatch. He can guard both small and tall men and shows the right mindset and hustle all the time. He has some natural instinct for positioning himself at the right spots all around the floor both ends.
By no means he will be always such a killer in catch'n'shoot 3p as he looked against Gaelics but he's a legit spacing-maker.
Image
Jackson is deceptive. Looks not-so-tall not-so-muscular but he can match bigger guys out of balance, agility and proper reading.
Current Carlisle systems allows him to spare body-banging and he's excelling by the mean of not playing into the paint but just showing himself there in lightning executions on attack or defense, catching defenders and attackers off guard many times.
Perfect small-ball Center.
I'm confused about some disconnections from the game he's having... dumb ones at times but I can put that into the bag of unexpierence. Easily fixable.

Goga is the only natural Center alive and kicking in the roster. Deceptive in a worse manner.
He has the size, the fundamentals, the toughness and even the talent and comprehension of the game.
He needs to find a way to hold his sh*t together and get the right focus at court. Soon.
As he is now, he can do some job and be positive for the team in limited minutes but I feel like he can't figure out yet the best way to put his skills at work.
ImageImage
Jalen looks very good as a stretch-5.
Less reliable anchoring the paint though he's bigger and stronger than Jackson.
All in all, doing a great job and helping the team to win.

::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

Now I'm starting to watch the game against Disney.
I'm the MVP of avoiding spoilers. No idea about what happened or who won.
Onto find it out.

OK...

Brogdon was out, Jalen self-ejected and the team fell apart after a nice first half against ORL.
Weird lineups: at times 4 guards + Jalen, at times Goga and Jalen splitting the strecht 5, both of them threatening from 3...

Carlisle tries the team get more proficient into zone defense; lacks communication between players.

No answer to Bamba's dominance around the rim, to Suggs streaks of inspiration and not even to Okeke shooting.

After a hopeful W, a deceiving L.

I better get used to.

Sure the team looks like it knows better what is doing with Malcom at court.
Our rotation of Bigs is doing better than they look.

At least, the personality they are building has been established in very few time:

Extreme small ball with a controlled pace and very mobile middle sized Big(s).
We defend more traditional when Goga is in but he is often strechting in attack the same than Jalen and Jackson.

The biggest problem right now is our board... we can improvise when things stack in offense but there are no tricks to make up for an inconsistent defense.

That zone-D is a good idea to cover for our lack of size; but you need a lot of communication, intensity and focus to play it or the guy in the middle (usually Jackson) gets regularly posterized due to his teammates' mistakes.
Right now our defense is mostly a feast of open lanes to the rim with a red signal over our paint.Image
