So, that leaves us with the following for tonight:
Haliburton/Sykes
Hield/Washington
Brissett/Lance
Taylor
Smith/Thompson
For funsies, that's a total of $44,178,401 of our team salary this year active tonight. Buddy and Tristan combine for $32.8m of that.

Regardless of stats, I just love Terry Taylor's situational awareness. He's not doing anything he can't do. He's rotating. He keeps his eyes up with the ball in his hands. He's moving and presenting himself as an outlet for wayward dribblers. Similar to Brissett in a lot of these ways.

Re: Game 60 vs Washington 7:30pm
First thing a team must do if wants actually compete is to build its own personality.
Pacers had a personality mostly based into the Big Men. Good or bad but it was a personality.
Not anymore.
I'm guessing not-actually-star guys such as Taylor, Brisset, Human Satisfier or StephenTroll could become the key of this New Pacers style... more even than the more highlighted Hali-Hield couple.
Too early to tell.
Just an idle thought.

First step is to get the injured guys active.

Nope.
First step is to build a personality of its own.
Regardless injures, asymptomatisms, load managements, future picks or cap concerns.
Will be always injured guys. They can help to build it as well.
Brogdon speaking to everybody at the bench, for instance.

I'm specifically thinking about Turner as he's the heart of our defensive identity.

Re: Game 60 vs Washington 7:30pm
I get that, Wizop.
He has being re-evaluated now 'cause apparently his foot's not healing fine enough. Could take far longer than expected (early March was initial prevision).
Team cannot let things hanging in the middle waiting for him to recover before starting the real job.
They need to build with people at hand.
Myles will need to jump into the wagon when he can even if wagon is running full speed by then.
I know that feeling...

Any other year, I'd agree, but this year is toast. The mission is to evaluate the reserves.

Re: Game 60 vs Washington 7:30pm
We have a deep disagreement here.
The mission is always to win games.
Starters or benchers are not a carved at stone category and should not be decided a priori but earned game to game.
If a middle round rookie is ready, you can play him as a starter (Spida Mitchell, f.i.)
If a Top-3 rookie isn't ready, play him like a starter is the shortest way to turn him into a bust (Anthony Bennett, f.i.).
Same for established or even veteran players.
Like Steve Van Zandt told to Paulie in an episode of The Soprano:

Re: Game 60 vs Washington 7:30pm
I just don’t get Carlisle’s non usage of Sykes tonight. Nine players available only using 8.

Particularly since the offense stunk when Hali rested. Must be the defensive matchup.Pacers Forever wrote:I just don’t get Carlisle’s non usage of Sykes tonight. Nine players available only using 8.

We don't disagree in general. I think though that the number of injured veterans provides an opportunity to evaluate the bench.

Nah. It's not being "re-evaluated" like it's not healing fine enough. This is just the checkup on the normal schedule. TJ Warren is the one that's not healing fine enough so it's taken a lot longer. For Myles, no time frame was ever given, but for the injury he's had, the average would have him out through the ASB and back shortly after. Again, just on average. No one knows a specific time frame. And with the team tanking in the standings, it could be an impetus to give him a couple extra weeks to be safe.
But no, it's not being re-evaluated now " 'cause apparently his foot's not healing fine enough". It's being re-evaluated because that's what the schedule for medical treatment showed. The only other word we've gotten is "the doctors are seeing what they hoped to see" and he's since ramped up his activity.
