Haha!

Gotta say, mad respect for knowing he's leaving and playing like he has the last couple games. He showed up, put forth the full effort, and seemed to click with the guys. If he wasn't happy here, he certainly handled it like a professional.

I’m sure Chicago will provide the big city LA feel he just left behind. Lotta clubs etc. there

So since we’re waiving a big that created a roster spot. I’m guessing we sign Jordan Bell from the Mad Ants in some fashion.

If we want a big, it'd possibly be him. But I'd say it's more likely it's Justin Anderson or Nate Hinton. They also seemed to like Bennie Boatwright, but he's still been working back from his summer league injury.

Outside chance it's Gabe York, but probably not.

Obviously, these are mostly all Ft. Wayne guys. They could go outside their reach and sign someone from elsewhere.

So was this a favor to him to let him join a contender?

A little bit to him, a little bit of a favor to us. He's probably giving back the prorated vet minimum he'll earn in Chicago (so he'll lose $0). For us, we'll then have a free roster spot to evaluate someone, and a little more tax space to fill the roster spot. Works out great for both parties.

I also would imagine that we not actually sign a new contract until the last day of the All-Star break, so as to save a weeks worth of vet minimum salary. It sounds silly, but nothing will be lost, as there's no practices or anything else going on anyway. :dontknow:

Honestly I would love to see them sign Terry Taylor to his spot and then promote one of the G leaguer’s. Washington would be ok but I personally think Terry is a bit more humble and hungry to make an impact.

Wouldn't surprise me if Washington or Taylor got a regular contract and an Ant got the two way. Do they have room to waive Rubio and elevate both of them?

The tough part is, I think both Taylor and Duane have proven themselves worthy of a roster spot. But, if our potential addition is eligible for a 2 way roster spot, I would imagine this is the way we would go in promoting one of our guys and backfilling the 2 way spot. But, if it's a guy like Jordan Bell who has too many years of NBA service, he'd have to be signed to fill the Tristan spot on the main roster, since he's ineligible to sign a two-way deal.

A player is ineligible to sign a Two-Way contract if he will have more than three years of NBA service at any point in the contract. A player cannot play under Two-Way contracts for the same team for more than three years total

At this time, it'd be awful tight, and it all depends on Buddy Hield's individual bonuses the rest of the way. Which all depend on how well he plays the rest of the way in specific statistical categories.

Right now? No, not enough space. Closer to the end of season (since vet minimum's and exceptions pro-rate), and you have a better idea on Buddy's bonuses? Sure. But then you're also giving up Rubio's bird rights to possibly use in the offseason (either re-sign or S&T him). And Rubio won't have any reason to agree to a buyout, since no one will sign him due to his injury. And he'd probably prefer to go into the offseason with someone holding his full Bird Rights, as it opens up more opportunities for him to get more than the MLE in a signing, with so few cap space teams.

I'm gonna guess a chance to compete for a title is more important to him.

Of course I was being facetious. He played better than I expected.

if he gave up a prorated veteran minimum deal, we should be able to fill the roster spot with a prorated veteran minimum deal (or less) without changing our cap or tax situation.

That's an odd number. I wonder what kind of formula was used to calculate it? I mean, is it the veteran minumum divided by the number of games in a season, then multiplied by the games remaining? Something along those lines?

Vet minimum prorated for remaining days in the league year, yes. Not games, but days specifically. On average, roughly 177 days in most league years.
