This would require two roster spots. One of which could be terminating Anderson, the other would either be Sykes or Rubio.

Re: Wok: Pacers Converting Taylor and Washington w Multi Year deals
I would assume the 2 way spots are back filled with Nate Hinton for one, and maybe Ahmad Caver? There’s weird 2 way rules that a guy has to be on the nba list for 15 days to be made restricted in the offseason, and those 2 fit. Could always sign a guy to a 2 year 2 way, which would open up the options.

Strange is this common practice to make them standard contract players for what reason ???
I’m confused why this was done. We will probably get explanations soon I guess. Is it so they are protected from being claimed by other teams ? Or are they now easier to be included in a draft day trade ?
I don’t mind the housekeeping of releasing Sykes.

They were only 2 way players, and would have been free agents this offseason. We converted them to a main roster player, and they are now under contract for next year.
It’s mostly a recognition that they are a long term prospect we’d look to develop, and this gets them in the program for that time frame, while keeping them out of free agency during that time period.
However, a 3 month trade restriction comes into play after a conversion, so these guys would not be able to be traded until July 6th, which is a couple weeks after the draft.
Also, it doesn’t apply to us this year, but 2 way guys are ineligible to play in the playoffs, so they’d have to be converted before he end of the season. Other regulations were removed this year, such as in non Covid years, 2 way guys could only play/practice for 45 days with the big league team, or they’d have to be converted to play/practice any more than that.

When does Anderson's deal end? Maybe the timing works with only dropping Sykes. Keeping Rubio now might mean they want the option to resign him in the summer.Scoot McGroot wrote:This would require two roster spots. I hope we hear something soon about their intents with Lance beyond this season.

The article on RealGM says with Anderson’s 10 day expiring along with cutting Sykes will create the 2 roster spots needed.

Today was the last day of Justin’s 10 day, and the team is waiting to process these deals until tomorrow.
It’s possible we qualify for a hardship with all the guys ruled out for the year, too, so we might see Justin signed with a hardship.
But yeah. We’ve kept the Rubio bird rights this long. Waiving him would’ve meant keeping Sykes or signing Anderson for the rest of season, so it seems like they’re keeping Rubios right’s for a reason.

I have eead rumors he might stay in Europe, but Rubio would make a great third string PG who has been around and knows the game but might need to ramp back up slowly due to age and injury and might not need the pressure of being a full time contributor right away.

I’ve heard he wants to retire in a couple years when his kids start school. He’s in Europe for his recovery, but should be back in the nba next year.
Even post recovery, I think he’s likely to be a solid backup option and above a 3rd string situation. I’d see him as unlikely to stay unless we move McConnell this summer.

Interesting details. I’m wondering if as a low paid pro they can keep from spending a lot of that ? Definitely not enough to buy a nice house or luxury items.
Seriously I’m not sure what necessary bills they have coming out of their paychecks such as apartment, utilities, transportation, personal items, family gifts, tickets, union dues, insurance, 401K, and other common expenses we all have.
I’m guessing Pacers pay for hotels and travel on the plane, transportation to the game, uniforms and equipment, maybe insurance ? Shoes idk.
Does anyone know the expense breakdown ? Do the Pacers give them a daily food allowance, and anything else ?

Players get a per diem, I believe, and all travel expenses covered. Agent fees are the other thing you primarily missed.

Re: Woj: Pacers Converting Taylor and Washington w Multi Year deals
Looks like Bobby rounded here. Appears to be league minimum salaries for each year, with a little bonus for each for this season using the remainder of the MLE. League minimum for them this year would be $925k, so Duane is getting over that a little (and a lot over when considering vet minimum would prorate this late in the year). Next year, their respective league minimums are $1,563,518. The following year, their league minimums would be $1,836,096.
Also, you can tell it was a carve out of the remainder of the MLE, instead of a vet minimum contract as vet minimum's are limited to 2 years. The 3rd year tells you right away it came out of the MLE remainder from Torrey Craig's signing.
Also, this all leaves Indy $100k under the luxury tax this season. An awful lot of moves, but they all were successful.

Yup. League minimums each of the next 2 years. Probably got that with the extra salaries this year that acted as a kind of “bonus”.
