Predraft Workouts

Post#1 » by Wizop » Thu May 12, 2022 7:34 pm

The Pacers will hold their first pre-draft workout in preparation for the 2022 NBA Draft on Friday, May 13 at St. Vincent Center.

The first workout group includes Utah Valley center Fardaws Aimaq, Michigan center Moussa Diabate, USC guard Boogie Ellis, Saint Joseph's guard Jordan Hall, Davidson forward Hyunjung Lee, and Memphis forward Josh Minott.

These names all look to be candidates for pick 31 or 58. Minott and Diabate are names I recognize and Minott has had some good reviews even though he didn't play much at Memphis.

JOSH MINOTT
Memphis
Freshman
W
6’8” | 205 | Wingspan: 6’11”
Age on draft night: 20.4

Minott being selected this high [37] would be based on his upside and physical tools rather than his production at Memphis. He averaged only six points per game but projects to be a switchy defender who impacts games with his athleticism and energy.

EDIT I'm not seeing anyone other than Minott in a top 100 list.

Diabate should be top 100 for sure, but he was one of the last declarations for the draft, so he wasn’t on a lot of lists yet.

Very intrigued with Hyunjung Lee. Kid can shoot and it seems like he's just scratching the surface of his potential. He seems raw even though he's got a solid # of games played in college.

A little insight I found reading an article about 21-year-old Hyunjung Lee who worked out today for the Pacers. 44 players are invited to take part in the G League Elite Camp next week in Chicago. The players who impress scouts the most in that setting will be invited to remain in Chicago for the NBA Draft Combine. Lee is invited.

Also found that Michigan center Moussa Diabate and Memphis forward Josh Minott who we also worked out are the only two that have received an invite to the combine.

Today's BoxAndOne free email highlights some GLeague workout names and has good things to say about Hall and Lee.

Hollinger's draft list has Minott at #10.

… the analytics on Minott are really impressive, with a sky-high steal rate of a big forward (3.6 per 100 possessions in AAC play), a positive assist-turnover rate and a 14.4 percent rebound rate despite often paying next to a lottery center. History says it would be folly to ignore a player who passes this deftly and gets his hand on this many balls at the defensive end. Even the shooting has some promise — he hit 75.4 percent from the line. It’s not like he was an empty offensive force either, scoring a very respectable 25.3 points per 100 possessions. He didn’t play much, but when he did, he was quite effective.

Also at the Athletic, Sam Vecenie has him at 41 and these other prospects all mostly slot in around the 50s so late 2nd round expectations.

I haven’t seen any of these first group play. Only one I’d be interested in is if Lee falls to our late second round pick and put him in the G league. Minott is flashy but I’m not interested.
