Hate the value. Unless Theis is flipped, or Turner is traded elsewhere for value, there’s WAY TOO many centers. This is also a HUGE bet on Nesmith being something.

Otherwise, Theis will fit into the Lamb TPE, and Nesmith will fit into the Doug McDermott TPE, with the other 3 guys being absorbed via minimum exceptions, so Indy will create a new TPE equal to Brogdon’s $22.6m, good for one full year.

Don't rewatch interviews of Kevin Pritchard talking about Brogdon or you might get sick  .

How does Boston fit Brogdon if these other guys go into TPEs? The one they had for Fournier wasn't this big (like 17 I think).

I really like Nesmeth. But as everyone else on twitter, it’s trending as Pacers making a move for Ayton. So I guess we just gotta see how this puzzle ends up before really commenting on it.

That's pretty big. I like having three first round picks in the next draft.

Yeah we took back 5 players and only have room for 2 on roster so another move coming

Yeah and our guards are still loaded. Hard to really get too excited yet because who knows who’s staying and who’s still leaving. Pacers woke up. Lol

Very probable.
It remains a low return, probably created by the rush to sign free agents, when in the past there have been (much) better offers, very probable.

The idea behind it can be very good, but again, the Pacers crush the trade value of another very good player by picking the wrong moment to trade him.

I can answer my own question I guess. From the Athletic.

Some crafty cap management set this up. Kudos to the Celtics for adding non-guaranteed years on the deals of Nik Stauskas, Juwan Morgan and Malik Fitts when they filled out the roster at the end of last season; they needed that filler today to amass juuuust enough outgoing salary to legally return Brogdon. Merry Christmas for each of them, as well, as their deals become guaranteed in order to complete this deal.

I guess the trade machine I looked at had some wiggle room.

What are the chances Theis gets waived? Especially if the play is for Ayton and Turner's still on the squad?

I don’t think he’ll be waived. If we don’t keep him I’d like to believe he’s part of compensation to another team. I’m not so sure we’re after Ayton.

It's not good value for Brogdon in a vacuum but for a rebuilding team it does make sense. Theis has 2yrs/18 mill remaing, team option on the third. Nesmith has 1 year 3.8, team option on the second. Don't feel Theis' salary is negative or positive. Overall it looks like Simon will save $42 mill +/-.

Anyone see the protections on Boston's (Indiana's) 23 1st?

Waived? 0%. Wouldn’t want to lock his money on the books for 2 years.

It’s funny reading the Celtics forum Malcolm is all ready a starter, an all star, a steal, everything they needed. Hate to break the news to them that he can’t stay healthy and defensively someone’s gonna have to help out on quicker guards.

The only thing I’ll give them is they got him cheap.

I'm excited as I have been wanting the Pacers to move on from Brogdon especially as they go younger and rebuild.

I'm perfectly happy to get a 1st round pick and roster/financial flexibility. Most of the guys acquired will likely be waived.

Brogdon just didn't demand the value that we would have liked. Teams around the league know his downsides just as much as the Pacers do. Plus, when you really took a look at potential trade partners there wasn't a ton of likely options that stood out.

I have a soft spot for Theis, gonna miss him. And I hope Nesmith is good for you guys and carves out a nice career for himself. Coming out of college he was a tremendous shooter, but his shot just hasn't fallen in the NBA. He makes up for it with insane energy and hustle, so if his shot comes back he could end up being a really nice young player. Anyway, thx for Brogdon, guys. Cheers.
