Woj: Pacers clearly moving into a full rebuild now
Doesn't sound like Ayton is in the plans for this team. I could've posted this in numerous threads, but it kinda feels like it deserves its own. Looks like Pacers will be in the market for another high lotto pick next season.

If team is truly committed in a full rebuild, when do we begin discussion about trading Chris Duarte?

Why? His age doesn’t bother me as his contractual team control (if we do want it) takes him through his entire prime.

But I’m glad to hear we’re not investing heavily into Ayton. Unfortunately, our extra picks won’t help with trying to get a Wemby in next years draft as they’re both protected.

The return could be pretty significant i would think for a player like Duarte and his age isn't exactly on par with the "new core".

Duarte could be the leader of this young team at only 25 he's signed for 3 more years and then we can keep him for 4-5 more if we want. He doesn't seem like the type guy who will demand a trade as soon as he starts getting good. I'm still high on Duarte for the future.

I like the idea of using the cap space to acquire some draft picks as well, maybe we can get in on the KD/Kyrie mess and eat a contract for a pick, we still need a starting SF unless Ben is gonna be the guy.

With 3 FRP’s in next years draft seems we should be angling for an unprotected pick FRP or two for Myles in the 2024-2026 range. That seems to be the standard protocol for rebuild.

Re: Woj: Pacers clearly moving into a full rebuild now
I’m still very high on Duarte’s future. Injuries really messed up his development and season last year.
I saw enough good in his first few games to tell that he has the capability to be a star from 3 point land. I loved his ability to knock down shots with little hesitation.
What he needs to do this year is work hard on staying healthy by playing less recklessly and more under control. He definitely needed to get his body stronger for the NBA grind to be a better defender.
I look at Chris and I saw a young man who’s still adjusting and in the maturing process regardless of age and college experience.
I’m betting he shows out this year and starts becoming a long term piece. I think Duarte can be a future stud. I’m also predicting he has a better season than Mathurin.

Everything said above about Duarte applies to Turner if we can lock him up for 3 or 4 more years .

Re: Woj: Pacers clearly moving into a full rebuild now
You don't need to align everyone's ages to the dot
Tony Parker was 6 years younger than Tim Duncan throughout their entire run
Kobe was 6 years younger than Shaq when the Lakers dominated in the early 00s
Kyrie Irving was 8 years younger than LeBron when they won together
And so on
If anything, I feel it's better to stagger everyone's ages a little bit so that they each get a turn under the spotlight, and you always have some who is in their peak during your entire window of contention

Good points. Didn't even think of it that way.

I agree. Big question, is the organization willing to be as good as we might be if we keep Myles and Buddy. Or would they rather take this opportunity to get another top 10 pick.

Even though it wasn't a joke, it is still fun

It was to be expected that Turner will explore all his options next offseason. At least we are on the same page with the player now.

Myles is only months older than Duarte. I keep him.8305 wrote:Wizop wrote:Everything said above about Duarte applies to Turner if we can lock him up for 3 or 4 more years .

Buddy is older but he's a gym rat which sets an example and you can't have too many shooters. I wouldn't shop him but if someone offers a top 3 it'd be hard to say no. Still there's Brown and next year's draft.

Re: Woj: Pacers clearly moving into a full rebuild now
Suppose they somehow managed to sign Andrew Wiggins as an FA, and then keep this core together. Five years from now, we'll be looking at something like this (their age in brackets):
Turner (31), Jackson (25), Goga (27)
Smith (27), Taylor (27)
Wiggins (32), Brissett (29), Brown (24)
Mathurin (25), Duarte (30)
Haliburton (27), Nembhard (27)
You get a good mix of veterans in the tail end of their peak (Wiggins, Turner), players in the middle of their prime (Haliburton, Smith, Duarte), and players who are just beginning to peak (Mathurin, Jackson, Brown)
That's a very solid looking roster to me
Basically I'm arguing that instead of jettisoning slightly older players like Turner or Duarte, I don't actually mind adding a player in their age group like Wiggins or Siakam etc who is experienced enough to help establish a winning culture now while still being young enough to contribute as a solid veteran for the hypothetical championship run in the future
(Hield and McConnell, if they're still around at that time, can be the future versions of Lance right now)

I'm in the camp that believes that we should keep Turner and see what he can do without a Sabonis sucking up all the rebounds. Believe me it Turner plays 30 min a game in 2022-23 and blocks 2.7 shots and can be better on the boards say 9 a game with his 35-37% 3 pointer, and he can stay healthy doing that he's gonna be worth a lot in trades. Look what the Jazz just got for Gobert.
Gobert doesn't shoot the 3pter at all and is not as good at blocks as Turner. Gobert is a much better rebounder. And Gobert is 30 where Myles is 26.

I’d love to keep Myles with this team. Problem is we’re not hearing Myles say he wants to be here. We heard Chad say that he’s not being shopped. I’m hoping they’re not.
