Duane cleared waivers, as did all 3 of the Celtics players waived.

Duane could legally re sign with Indy. The Boston players cannot because they were stretch waived.

Understood your point. I actually think Lance is a better fit in that he can handle, pass, occasionally score, probably play better defense, and play the 1,2, or 3. Stats for Lance 45% FG, 31% from 3, 3 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 turnovers per.

Looking at Washington Jr. stats he’s a one trick pony. Scorer. 40% FG ~~~37% from 3, 2 rebounds and assists per game with a turnover.

Other than Lance there’s not much available in free agency.

I get what you're saying. However, Duane was a couple orders of magnitude better from 3, which made his overall shooting more effective than Lance. The other main thing is that Duane was a rookie at 21 and Lance was a seasoned vet at 31, so there's some assumptions that Lance may continue to slowly diminish a bit, and Duane may continue to improve a bit.

But yeah, Duane is certainly a microwave scorer/long range shooter to spread the floor. Both play with energy. Maybe Duane can add on some PG/ball handling type skills over the long haul.

In theory, Lance is the guy you sign if you want to win now, while Duane is the guy you sign if you are a couple years away from truly winning.

I would imagine he took a 2 way in Phoenix because it was the best offer on the market. Reading the board, I’d assume we didn’t offer to re sign him rather than he turned down a possibly better contract with us to sign a worse deal elsewhere.

I didn't mean to suggest he'd turned down a regular contract here to take a 2-way elsewhere. I suppose Nesmith and Nembhard eliminated his possible PT here even as a 2-way.

Very close. As you, I believe 2 players our rookies drafted more than cover Washington Jr.’s stats making him expendable. Nembhard has the ability to play defense that Washington Jr. didn’t provide and can drive to the bucket. Mathurin covers the lost 3 point production which Washington Jr. provided.

The signing of Brown and Nembhard along with their fascination of Nesmith becoming a wing defender signals a move towards athleticism and defense. If you’re not the designated point producers (Mathurin, Heild, Duarte, Haliburton, Stix, Turner) you’re here to defend, rebound, and facilitate. Any offense is a bonus.

Washington Jr. will eventually evolve into the guard who can knock down shots on a contending team where his lack of defense is covered by the starters who win the games. Or he may become an offensive star on a lower echelon team going nowhere.

He was good for us last season but doesn’t fit Carlisle’s new direction of an athletic and defensive team.

Scott Agness says we offered him a camp contract but he got more.

Duane really reminds me of Quinn Cook, in that they're both undersized SG's who aren't quite able to play PG, and have little to no defense to offer. Both flashed at times, and Quinn was able to contribute to 2 championship winning teams in GS and LA. There's certainly hope for Duane, but like Cook, his tenure in the league will be eternally tenuous if there's not an additional skill developed.
