Pacers vs. Wizards 10/19

After a four-game preseason, the Pacers will officially tip off a new season on Wednesday night, as they open their 2022-23 campaign with a three-game homestand. First up is a visit from Bradley Beal and the Washington Wizards for Opening Night presented by Kroger.

The Pacers have overhauled their roster over the past year, as 11 of the 17 players on Indiana's Opening Night roster were not on the team at the start of last season. Wednesday's game will be the first Pacers season opener for players like Tyrese Haliburton and Jalen Smith, who were acquired in midseason trades.

Those two, along with 2021 first-round picks Chris Duarte and Isaiah Jackson, are part of an impressive collection of young talent assembled by the Pacers' front office in the last 18 months. Another key piece in that group is rookie guard Bennedict Mathurin, who will make his highly anticipated NBA debut on Wednesday.

You might want to change the thread title from Hornets to Wizards.

No surprise about Nesmith as he’s been battling the injury. Smith I’m surprised about unless the fall he took in preseason feels worse after the fact. I’m betting he’ll play. Theis, hmmmm maybe he is really hurt ? I would think if they’re trying to move him they’d be giving him minutes to showcase him to possible trade partners.

I doubt showcasing is needed. his game is well understood. I suspect he'll eventually be traded and there is no point in risking further injury or taking minutes away from the youngsters. it is clear that success this year will not be measured in wins and losses but in player development.

No matter how down we are on the Pacers or if you embrace the rebuild or not, it's always fun watching the Pacers play. This season slightly different, as Chad Buchanan said on the sideline guys podcast, if team plays the right way and player such as Ty and Mathurin keep improving, even a loss on the scoreboard will be seen as a win for the club.

That said, I'm right there with him. As long as Haliburton, Mathurin and Duarte play well and Jackson, Nembhard and Smith continue to improve from one game to the next, I'll be happy.

Yep. Turner is in mid-season form. Meaning he is out with an injury.

Does any other team still want him? I'm well past ready for the team to move on from guys who are an injury waiting to happen.

We can hope he didn't hurt the other player.

Is Turner even on the bench with the rest of the guys?

I don't even think he came on the floor when the players were announced. Agness reports he went to locker room, came out, and went back in disgusted. Sounds like they taped it and it wasn't enough. I wouldn't read anything into him not being on the bench other than anger and disappointment.

Duarte doesn't look like a 3 to me. Small sample size though.
