Nice that the Pacers got to not only take their pick between Walker and Hendricks, but they also got to squeeze the Wizards for some compensation to let them move up and draft Coulibaly. A little weird though - did the Wizards actually fear the Pacers would take Coulibaly???

Why would the Wizards do that deal?

I can not convey how gobsmacked I was when they said Bilal.
Then my brain was like this has to be a trade

At this point maybe we should sneak in and unplug their phone.

I’m speculating that Utah wanted to trade up for Coulibaly and Wizards paid a small price to not lose their guy. Feels good to screw over Ainge if this is the case.

Sounds silly, but Indy will also save about $600k in salary each year of the rookie contracts, and a total of $2.5m over 4 years by taking their guy at 8 instead of 7.

The trade's "agreed in principle", right?
How does that work? Can Wizards still change their mind?

Uh, probably not? Like, it’s not waiting on another move to be processed, and the league has already announced it.
It’d take something massive and reputation ruining for Washington or Indy to back out now?

Yes. But the new one would probably not work any better.

Where's the rimshot emoji?

The Ringer's Danny Chau gives Walker a draft grade of A.
This was a popular destination in mocks during the predraft process, and the Pacers were able to acquire two second-round picks to select the player they wanted all along. Indiana got themselves a brick wall on skates. Walker combines brains and brawn on both ends of the floor: On offense, it should be a joy to watch him make plays out of the short roll from the two-man game with Tyrese Haliburton; on defense, he has the short-area quickness to switch and the length and strength to protect the paint, creating a dynamic defensive duo with Myles Turner, for as long as Turner remains in Indiana.

Rarely at 7, after the trade 8 teams can find a good prospect that perfectly fits into what a team needs. Time will tell if he was worthy of the 8th pick because it is always a crapshoot. But, prospect and fit wise it is a homerun.

I’m watching Walker highlights and I see Tyler Hansbrough. Hope I’m wrong.

Pacers draft my favorite guys every year.
I was very high on Nembhard last year and let it be known here following draft night.
Jarace will be great for y'all as well. IMO he's the best defender in the draft and will be an All-Defense talent right from the get-go.
He's got a lot of offensive upside as well. His shot looked surprisingly decent this year and he looked more and more comfortable taking 3s as the season progressed.
Ceiling: OG Anunoby, Floor: Oshae Brissett
Grade: A+

In what universe was Hansbrough ever considered a defense first player? Or known to have high level playmaking potential?
Hansbrough’s entire game was crashing into dudes trying to get fouled. Even if that were all Walker’s offensive game ever were if you add elite multi-positional defense and high level playmaking from the forward position you have a much much better player than Tyler Hansbrough ever could have been.
