Pacers trade rumors & speculation thread

Post#1 » by Grang33r » Mon Dec 16, 2024 4:45 am

I know we have a on-going game day thread, figured we also start up a rumors thread for all trade talk. As someone in the other thread posted, it's "trade season". :D

Good. Turner isn’t a superstar, but he’s a Pacer for life and a good contributor at both ends who has continued to improve his game over the last few seasons. It would be great if he could improve his consistency but he is who he is now I expect.

Is it too late to rescind the Goga trade?

So, Evan Sidery has been weird. He’s kind of mixing his traditional aggregator posting with loosely worded reports like that that don’t I think are him re wording other people’s work to act as if he’s kind of reporting something, though he’s being very clear NOT to actually report anything. I also be,I we he knows Chad Buchanan, but he’s not one of the reporters around the team on a daily basis or even checking in around the facilities at all in person.

I’m very uncomfortable citing anything from Sidery, is what I’m saying. He’s not a garbage, knows nothing, kind of guy, but he’s starting to feel real scuzzy lately?

There’s a lot more of this since Twitter started paying for engagement. Can’t blame him tbh.

Sure. I’ve mostly switched to Bluesky. I basically have kept Twitter for the direct messages with certain people. I’ve quite enjoyed the new Bluesky as it feels like the tight old school Twitter environment before the massive monetization push.

I’ve only been on Twitter since last year I believe and it opened up a vast amount of information on sports that I didn’t see prior. However the bad of it is the flood of advertising and I constantly try to get it to go away but the system doesn’t listen.

The Detroit Pistons have re-signed Paul Reed, team says. This is per Michael Scotto on Bluesky.

Yup. Masterful cap manipulations to have the absolute maximum salary cap space in season, while staying over the salary floor to get their luxury tax distribution payment this year (which could be as much as $20m!)

Pelicans are rumored to be having a fire sale. Any potential upgrade to push this team forward? Maybe move Matherin for Ingram thoughts? Maybe add in a 2nd or 2 for Grand Theft Alvarado?

To add some context Ingram and Siakam at the forwards match better with Boston and New York in a potential playoff matchup. I like a Ingram vs Jayson Tatum / Siakam vs Brown matchup. Or in a scenario where the team rematch with the Knicks Anunoby vs Siakam / Hart vs Ingram is also a better matchup. Indy would have a legitimate chance in either potential match.

You’re about $30m short of salary matching necessary. So, you’d have to include 2-3 of Myles, Obi, Nesmith, and Jarace just to legally make a swap like that.

Realistically, Herb Jones is the guy we’d want, but NO wouldn’t, and shouldn’t, even consider moving him.

Trade checker says it would be legal for a trade of Turner and Mathurin in exchange for Missi and Ingram. Pacers gain 3 assists.

It would not be legal. Indy would need to send out another $4ish million? Even then, it’d put over the hard cap at the first apron, so really, Indy would need to send out another $10m or so? But that’s still mean going into the tax at $5m or so, which would cost $12.5m in tax payments, and cause Indy to lose out on $20ish million in tax distributions at seasons end?

Is Ingram/Missi worth paying out Myles/Mathurin/Nesmith and paying/losing out on an almost $40m extra in cash via salary, tax, and lost distribution payments?

Indy isn’t going into the tax this year. That $20m ish tax distribution payment is too much to give up.

No not worth going into the tax when we can’t trust this team game to game this season.

Seems some people liked the old "Twitter" echo chamber and censorship that existed prior to Musk buying it. I said at the time he paid way too much for it! But what is utterly hilarious is the snowflakes running off to their new "silo" called Blue Sky!!

How are you gonna match salary? Ingram is at $36 million and Benn at $7.24 million. Who else are you gonna pack into that deal to match? I don't see any way to make a legal trade for Ingram and can he be resigned and not put the team in the tax next year.

I think it might be time to realize the Siakam trade was in fact premature, this team was not ready to take the step to the next level. Regardless of the run they made las year. They are too close to the tax to make any kind of move that will make them better and with the 2 huge salaries of Siakam and Haliburton they won't be able to resign Turner without going into the tax.

Solution? Trade Siakam to the Lakers for Hachimura, Russell, Knect an 2029 and 2031 #1 picks, then flip Russell and 2 2nds to Brooklyn for DFS. This might need a bit more salary from LAL to work. Pacers would have to release Johnson, and Wiseman and maybe send the extra player from LAL to the Nets into one of their trade exceptions.
