You can't go wrong that late in the 2nd with a guy who led college basketball in some important statistic. I remember years ago Paul Millsap led college basketball in rebounding - 3 years in a row! - but somehow still fell to the 47th pick... and then guess what, he was a fantastic player.

Doesn't have an ESPN or Tankathon draft profile, and not even a Wikipedia page, as of the moment he was drafted!

Pacers vp of scouting, Ryan Carr, has a son that's the manager for Liberty.

Hollinger’s analysis: Unlike a lot of people, I’ve actually seen Taelon Peter play in person. He looked totally overmatched in Liberty’s first-round NCAA Tournament loss to Oregon that I watched in Seattle this March, but his whole team was also operating at a pretty big athleticism deficit. The fifth-year senior had a high steal rate and can really shoot (45.3 percent from 3), so his game may translate better when he doesn’t have to be his team’s best player. The Pacers likely will have him on a two-way while he develops.

There's some video of him now on youtube,.... He looks (no numbers) reasonably athletic? definitely above the rim player,.... His 3 attempt %,.. was over 50% of his shots,.... and he still managed to lead his team in dunks?..... I like the look of his game. He has a long way to go,... but you can see now, what he has the potential to be. There is a clear path to him becoming an NBA player. Usually helps those late seconds to have a chance to succeed.

1 game doesn't make or break a person,.... It's just 1 game,.....
Mar 6, 2025,... Liberty vs Middle Tennessee St.
28 minutes,.... 8/8 on 2's; 3/6 on 3's; 8/8 FT,... 6 rbs, 1 assist, 3 steals, 1 block, 2 TO's, 3 fouls, 33 points,...
I know the level of competition is WAY different,...... but I couldn't do that playing against a team of kindergartners?.... 00
OK,... I couldn't do that playing alone on a practice court,..... 00

Oh, I have no issue whatsoever with him being pick 54. None whatsoever. Put him on a two way for 2 years and see what you can get out of him. Guys like Merrill, Hauser, Duncan Robinson, etc have come out of development obscurity to produce in the nba. We should work on it too.

I saw his name on the list of their pre draft workouts earlier in the week, so i checked him out. I was hoping they were going to get him, but thought maybe undrafted FA. I'm fine with the pick though - ensured they got the guy they wanted.

LOL - Sorry mate,... didn't think you had any issue with him being picked,... didn't mean to imply that you might have?....
Just started to actually look into him & I thought he looked pretty good for a 54! LOLOL (all things relative of course,...)

Edit: He actually looks good enough,... that if Ryan Carr's son suggested him?... we should be scouting Carr's son as a scout?.... LOLOL =}

Some more highlights. I want so bad for this guy to be good. I always have too high expectations for our 2nd rounders. Sometimes it works out though.

I have Freeman well ahead of Peter. I can see Freeman getting the last two-way and Peter an exhibit 10, but I can also see waiving Bradley, giving Freeman a standard contract, and Peter a two-way.

Taelon Peter has agreed to a two-way contract with the Pacers, per league scource. @mikeascotto.bsky.social first to it.
As expected and presaged by the withdrawal of the Freeman tender. I believe they feel comfortable with Q or RayJ being active when a third PG is needed (Kam could also play spot minutes on the ball) and that they plan to keep all 4 centers
FOR NOW.
