"it appears the Pacers are done with Jamaal Tinsley&quo

This is from Todays Chicago tribune in an article by Sam Smith. Not claiming any sources but suggesting he has some idea this is true
Travis Diener replaced Tinsley over the weekend, and while Tinsley had been having something of a revival season with Rick Carlisle gone, he probably cinched his exit last week.
The Pacers were playing the Suns tough in Phoenix, taking them to overtime. But Tinsley missed eight shots in the fourth quarter and still took 10 of the team's 11 shots in overtime.
A package including an activity player like Renaldo Balkman or Mardy Collins and an expiring contract ought to be enough for the Knicks to get him.

It got me to thinking if Tinsley was on the market maybe it would be worth the risk to trade with NY if they took on a bad contract like Murphy etc.

If we could get Mardy Collins or Renaldo Balkman AND an expiring contract to fill out the deal, we'd be running in the streets.
Sure, Tinsley has a decent to good amount of value on the court, but he's worn out his welcome here. We'd be lucky to get that package.
However, I don't think Sam Smith has any idea what he's talking about. That Phoenix game would not have been what has pushed him out the door, but an accumulation of everything that's happened over the past 3-4 years and the fact that he finally has SOME trade value is what would push him over the edge.
Hell, with NY, I'd think about doing a Tinsley/Murphy/Daniels type deal for Marbuy/Collins or Robinson. That's a pure financial move. I doubt NY would include either Collins or Robinson in that deal though.
Financially, I'd even have to think hard about a Murphy, Dunleavy, Tinsley for Marbury, Fred Jones, and one of Lee, Collins, Robinson, Chandler, or Balkman. That's a deal that almost cleans the financial cap after next season. That's pretty not bad, though we do have to lose Dunleavy, which after the way he's played this year would be a huge loss.

I think saying Diener "replaced" Tinsley is a bit of a stretch, particularly since Boy Toy only played 10 minutes last night.
I suspect this is just typical Sam Smith spitballing. I don't doubt the Pacers would like to get rid of Tinsley, but they're still stuck with his contract and off-court issues dragging his value down. As damaging as his shot selection and decision making is from time-to-time, I think the Pacers will keep Tinsley because any package we can get for him at this point would be a backwards move.

Maybe the Pacers SHOULD trade Tinsley for an expiring contract...but can anyone really imagine Larry Bird doing that? It would be throwing in the towel on this season. We wouldn't have a single viable option for a starting pg.
That's a move the Pacers think about if we are 7-31. Not 17-21.
Not saying I necessarily agree completely with that thinking, but I'd bet the ranch that our front office is not looking to blow up the team just yet.

We are out of the playoffs and won't get back in. Obie doesn't know how to coach this talent. He put a very nice offense in, but he can't coach this type of talent.

Isiah is on thin ice already. Trading a fan favorite like Lee or Balkman in a package for anything less than a star would be the end of him in NY. Dolan is already rumored to be eyeballing new candidates for head coach b/c Isiah is being held responsible for falling attendance. Trading Lee or Balkman without someone like Artest or better coming back would lead to all out fan mutiny. Seriously.
If Tinsley is ticketed for NY, it would have to be part of some Marbury or Zach Randolph trade. Isiah can't take in big contracts without moving some bad contracts.

Hell, I might do aNY trade like this....
Incoming Players
Randolph Morris
David Lee
Jamal Crawford
Stephon Marbury
Outgoing Players
Jamaal Tinsley
Troy Murphy
Jermaine O'Neal
I know many will balk @ Crawford, but w/ him A SG, and adding a Lee, we could them look to move a package w/ Daniels (w/ Foster, Ike, or ?) for "pieces?
OR ask for Curry & move him w/ Ike & David for Gasol?
Just throw'n cr*p...see'n what sticks.

I would trade Tins for Balman, Jones, filler. Then again I totally hate Tinsley.

Hmm, I would have never guessed.
We would be lucky to trade anyone to the Knicks at this point, I believe.
I also think this writer has no idea what he is writing about. I just guessed he took a peek at the box score, saw some numbers, made some story.

Let's be honest, this writer in question has NEVER seemed to know what he's writing about. You would think that when you throw thousands of ideas against the wall, one would stick and come true. I haven't seen it yet though.

Anyone suggesting us getting Marbury must be using the good stuff, we don't need another chucking point guard. Seeing how the offense flows with Diener in, I think he needs a chance to be a starter before we get a player thats going to plant him on the bench completely.

Sorry, I'm not smoking weed. Watch the accusations.
As it is, I'm not suggesting broadly that we should go after Marbury, and not just for what he provides on the court. I'm suggesting that if we could dump a couple of 4 year deals for Marbury's 2 year deal, it would be hard not to do that, especially financially.

As things stand we are stuck in a bad spot and it wouldn't be that bad an idea to actually acquire Marbury because next season he suddenly has a lot of value. 20+ million expiring is much better sooner rather than later.
I think Marbury could atleast match Tinsley's production, which is why I'd do a deal with them based around JT and Murphy.
Imagine the flexibility we'd have if we followed this up by moving JO for more expirings.
Considering Bynum is out for the next two months I'd revisit talks with LA, if they start slipping, and not demand Lamar. Bynum, Brown, Critt + filler for JO, Harrison.

if -- and this is a MEGA if -- bynum was ever on the table this summer, under no condition would he be available for anyone not named lebron right now. i sincerely doubt bynum was actually available this summer though.

maybe this summer, i was talking about the rumored deals with the pacers and bynum's availability. i'm sure he would have been available to a number of other players too this summer, not now though.

Getting Marbury would cause controversy, but like was said before, would also be a great asset come next year. Maybe a deal like:
Indy gets Marbury, F. Jones, Robinson, Collins
NYK get Tinsley, Murphy, Daniels, Owens
Contracts match and w/ Randolph, Lee, and Curry in the middle, Troy could provide spacing on the floor. Tinsley goes home, and Daniels gives depth to the back court.

I am completely against getting Marbury. I would love to deal Tins, but if its to the Knicks it needs to be Balkman or Chandler, plus Jones.

I would love to see us get Marburry for a package of Tinsley and Murphy. We would get tremendous cap relief. Marburry cant be worse than Tinsley and he is a much better shooter. I like Dieners ability to run the offense and he has a sweet shot, but if Diener and Dunleavy were our starting backcourt, we would probably have the worst perimeter defense in the entire league. The dribble penetration would be killing us.
