O'Brien Finally Responds To Webber Criticism

Post#1 » by notque » Tue Jan 22, 2008 8:44 pm

RealGM Staff Report -
Chris Webber has often criticized his former coach in Philadelphia Jim O'Brien, and on Monday O'Brien finally responded in a News-Journal article.

"In one of the first conversations I had with Chris Webber, I said, 'This is one of the ways we're going to use you offensively [down low with Kyle Korver on the outside],' " O'Brien said. "And he said, 'Coach, I don't do the low-post thing anymore.'"

"We just made a major trade to bring in this 6-[foot]-11 guy, and he said, 'No,' and I said, 'Yes, you do.'"

"Webber didn't practice at all that year prior to coming to us," he said. "I think he was just at the point where he didn't necessarily feel he was in need of practice or could practice. It became apparent that he was not going to give the Philadelphia 76ers everything that we had hoped for."

Sounds entirely reasonable to me. O'Brien did what you would expect, and Webber was going to be paid a lot of money to not listen.

I guess we aren't in the running for Chris, eh?

Anyone remember when everyone thought the Pacers would get Chris Webber because he was best friends with Jalen Rose. We would have won the Championship if that didn't fall through.

Yikes, so looks like he'd be useless to help us out with our Kwame problem in LA. Or maybe he'd suck it up for Phil, but it doesn't make me like him very much.

That is a real shame, Webber used to be a real classy guy.

Webber's balky knees have drastically changed the type of player he is. He is now nothing more than a spot-up midrange jump-shooter.

Webber does indeed suck. There are rumors that GS is looking to pick him up. That's flat out insane, despite our big man problems. When was the last time an immobile 34 year old forward helped a run and gun team?

Anyway, what really got me posting here though was the comment about how the Pacers aren't in the running because of O'Brien. That may be true, but then what the heck is up with the GS rumors? Nellie is to Webber as O'Brien is to, well, Webber. Only more so.
