David Aldridge of TNT reported Saturday that a three-team deal among the Kings, Denver and Indiana would have brought Pacers forward Jermaine O'Neal to Sacramento. Petrie, however, was adamant that he was not in three-team discussions, nor was he pursuing O'Neal.

My mind is racing with possible scenerios

Who would we want from either the Kings or Nuggets?

Possibly the return of Brad Miller?

Why would we want to pay him that much at this point, though? He may be worth what he's making, but not to a team that's rebuilding, which is what we would about have to do if we traded Jermaine to either of those two teams and didn't get Melo back, which we surely wouldn't.

Kevin Martin, J.R. Smith, if you're thinking about getting better young talent, and a backcourt shooter.

You have to figure that we'd get a bad contract (Brad Miller, Kenny Thomas, or Kenyon Martin) sent back to us...I'm guessing Denver's trying to get Artest, but Sacramento wants to dump Kenny Thomas, so the jumbling's starting to occur.

Actually, I'm guessing that Aldridge is (as usual) full of ****, but, whaddaya going to do...

In fact, I was playing with the trade checker, and the Kings would almost have to be sending out a combination of Miller, Artest, and Kenny Thomas, with SAR possibly being substituted for one of them, in order to make the salaries work.

You figure, Denver will only take back a bad contract if they can dump theirs, specifically, Kenyon Martin, so you got a lot of albatrosses flying around in these scenarios, and I figure at least a couple of them will get hung around the Pacers' neck.

The only expirings I can see are Najera ($5.0mm) and JR Smith ($2.1mm) in Denver...I'm not sure what JO gets Sacramento, and while Denver may be interested in Artest, how much are they really willing to pay?

Seems to me like a good way to find a worse deal than the VC rumors or even the Zach Randolph deals Knicks fans and NY papers have kicked around.

I don't know how Indy could help in this trade. Sacramento might be willing to acquire JO, but it would be stupid to do so because clearly Sacramento is trying to cut salary. The only explanation is if they are willing to gamble on a former elite big, in his prime, returning to form. They definitely won't attract one anytime soon.

And so the speculation continues...........

Sorry guys, Geoff Petrie told a reporter of the Sacramento Bee yesterday that there was nothing to Aldridge's claims:

David Aldridge reported on TNT during Saturday's All-Star game coverage that the Kings were involved in three-team talks that would have sent Ron Artest to Denver, Brad Miller to Indiana and brought Jermaine O'Neal to Sacramento. Another version of the rumor popped up soon thereafter that had Denver forward Nene headed to Indiana instead of Miller. Either way, Petrie shot it down.

I don

Thank God. The last thing we need is an aged, overpaid, injury prone jabroni like Brad Miller. If we move J.O., I wish we'd target young players, draft picks, and/or expirings.

Check out Brad Miller's numbers this year. Go ahead. They are great. He is better than JO at this point, and he had one year of being injured. I dont think he solves a great deal of issues for us, but your claims about him are outlandish.

As for Petrie shooting the rumors down, come on people, what else was he going to say? Remember oh, say, two weeks ago when Cuban told someone he was smoking crack about that Kidd deal? Not only that, but he would not include Van Horn in any deals? Yeah, exactly.

have to think this rumor predated Kings deal with Atlanta.

Why do we want him?

He's about to turn 32.

He doesn't play defense.

He's injury prone.

He's a jump shooter with a sub-par FG%.

He's not any sort of long-term solution. He's another quick fix band-aid, and history tells us those type of moves are mistakes. The only plus I can see is that his contract is smaller and shorter than J.O.'s.

I know for a fact that young players, draft picks, and expirings are what we need, but since Bird is an ignorant hick who has no clue what he's doing, I could live with this deal. Knowing how inept and inbred Bird is, it could be much worse.

The big difference between Petrie and Cuban, though, is that Petrie has the credibility to take what he says at face value. If there was something going, he would not have lied and said "we have nothing working". He would have just refused to answer the question with a line of "that's not something I'm willing to talk about right now". If he says the Kings are not looking at JO or talking to the Pacers, then that is what is going on.

Also, ask yourself, why would he acknowledge that he has talked recently with Denver then turn around and lie about not talking to the Pacers? Does that make sense?

When did Aldridge say this? - I must have missed a minute of coverage or so...

You cant take anything that people in their position say at face value. Whether it is Petrie, Cuban, Colangelo, or whoever, they never tell the media anything they dont want them to know. He absolutely would have said "we have nothing working". These guys didnt get to where they are for being stupid (some of them got there by being a big name though), and if they even leave any shred of doubt, they know the media will take it and run with it. You are naive if you believe everything these guys say to the media.

Also, it makes plenty of sense that he would acknowledge the Denver talks and not the Pacer rumors (which I never heard and I watched the AS game). There was nothing material to any rumors with Indiana. No names were bantied about, no nothing. That means he was probably pretty confident that it was merely speculation and that there wouldnt be a plethora of other media members questioning him about it. The Artest to Denver rumors are everywhere, and everyone knows they are shopping Artest, so it wouldnt make a great deal of sense to deny those rumors now would it?

I am not saying that any Brad Miller to the Pacers deal makes a great deal of sense, but you cant criticize Miller's play this year. He had ONE season of being injury prone, and that was last year with his plantar facsitis (sp). If we traded JO for him and some expiring contracts, yeah, we get more cap flexibility. I agree that what we need is picks, cap flexibility, and young players, but if you havent noticed, offers of that nature arent exactly flying in for JO. I have little confidence that Bird will make any intelligent moves here, but he could do far worse than reacquiring Brad Miller.

 So you would rather believe speculation attributed to David Aldridge....and you call ME naive?

Give me a break. I come in here as a courtesy to point out that the Kings' GM personally refuted the rumor. It's up to you whether or not you want to believe what he has to say. Obviously you would rather believe the fantasy rumors that come from ESPN.

Kings' GM Geoff Petrie denied talking with the Pacers about an Artest deal, but admitted to talking to Denver.

Deal won't go down with Indiana involved.

Yeah, no way. The Sixers are intrigued by Artest as well, but sources close to the team don't think anything will get done.

Look no name calling, please...count55 I am not saying I want these rumors to be true, I sat there and said I hadnt even heard them before this thread. I still dont even really know what the hell they are all about. All I said was: You cant believe everything these guys say to the media. Thats it. You come here as a courtesy? It looks more as if you come here to stir up trouble and shoot down rumors associated with your team.

If this rumor has anything to do with us reacquiring Artest, then its so ridiculous that it isnt worth anyones time to discuss.

Not much worse, really. Jerome James? Erick Dampier? Kenyon Martin? Jason Kapono?

Really, there's not a lot of worse contracts out there, especially for our system.
