Marc Stein: Diogu more likely available than JO

If Indiana trades a big man before Thursday's buzzer, it's far more likely to be Ike Diogu than Jermaine O'Neal. The Pacers know that the prospect of getting back anything appealing for O'Neal is a major long shot given all the uncertainty about his health with two-plus years and nearly $45 million left on his contract. I've been strongly advised to expect JO to play out the rest of the season in Indy.

All I can say is Ike Diogu was supposed to be the "key" to the Jackson/Harrington trade and if we give him away for fluff, then it trully cements that trade as being lopsided for GS

I edited the thread title to more accurately represent the source and tone of the thread. I also added a link to the quote. - Scoot

Except for the fact that Dunleavy and Murphy have similar number to Jackson and Harrington. It may still be slightly slanted, but not ridiculously like everyone says, at least according to the numbers. I still am unhappy with trading Ike after building up so much excitement about him. I really don't think he's bad at all, for some reason JOB just won't play him.

I'm going to go revisionist historian on you guys and say that the key to that trade was Dunleavy. I'm sure Larry Bird would agree with me.
I think Diogu's trade value at this point in time is pretty much zippo. So, he'll stay with the Pacers for now.

yeah and really, ike needs to be used as a sweetener for someone to take murphy.
but dunleavy has been much better than i think most of us anticipated. the only part of the deal that i still hate is murphy. i wasn't thrilled with dun's contract but he's at least earning it now.

I can't recall whether it was TPTB that spun Ike as the steal of the deal, or whether it was some guys in the national media like Chris Sheridan and Chad Ford that put it out there, and we just ran with it.

I agree that Dunleavy is performing well above expectations, I think Ike has potential , but even though we have zero low post scorers , he is not given PT, got to question why.
PS Anyone see last night when Granger got the tech? I love how he got pissed off and came down with 2 straight jumpers, and a block. I loved the expression on his face. If only he could bring that every night?

I read this statement completely differently.
ESPN could be saying that any Big Man in the rotation had a greater chance of being moved then JONeal. It does not necessarily mean that TPTB are shopping Ike.....I read it as saying that JONeal's trade value is so low that there is a greater chance that ANY of our Big Men could be moved before JONeal is moved. You could have replaced Harrison with Ike in that statement and it would still be true.
I'm not getting my hopes up.....realistically, there is very little that we could have done before this trade deadline.

Wild guess over the summer LeBron will start crying about his team and Jermaine O'Neal will be shipped there for basically nothing for Sczerbiak's expiring deal. Maybe you guys will get a first in 2009 or something.
