Or to announce he's joining the team to give us some extra shooting for our finals run.

Why would he resign? Cause he couldn't get Mike Miller, and that caused him too much pain?

Maybe we signed someone? Sarunas maybe? LOL.

Maybe Zeke is headed to IU to be the next coach, Bird is headed to NY to insure they stay in the lottery, & Donnie is coming back FT! :D

Likely a "what we tried to do" / "where we are" / "stay with us" kinda thing.

I could totally understand why it was difficult for us to make a trade, mostly because the last one we pulled hasn't turned out to be that good.

Imagine O'Brien's system with the guys we traded away.

Bird is starting to piss me off.... :x
What does he really think he is going to accomplish w/ this "We don't have a Leader" crap? This is an obvious shot at JO - & to a degree Danny. I know Larry is not a JO guy, but was it necessary to crack on him while he's in street cloths, or is that his point. Is he throwing shots @ JO for taking too long ("Jaking" his injury), or for not being more of a leader while on the sidelines?
I just don't see this as a constructive address towards our team, our players, and a sad message to give to an already discouraged fan base. :noway:

Wow....he held a press conference to say that he didn't think we have a team leader?

Good job calling out JONeal in front of the press.

I'm not saying what he says isn't true.....I'm just saying that he didn't have to hold a press conference to essentially point out that we don't have a leader. To me....this is a indirect shot at JONeal...our supposed Franchise player and leader on the team.

Might as well try and piss him off so he decides to not use his player option ;)

Does anybody here think that statement's not true?

This has two quotes from a 20-minute conference. If he was asked what the team needed, and this was his answer, then what's the problem?

Do we think that if he tucks these guys in at night and whispers sweet nothings in their ears, all of sudden JO's going to healthy, JT's going to be healthy and not stupid, and poof! we're a contender?

I don't see the point in this by Larry Bird. He's basically taking a shot at Jermaine O'Neal and calling the rest of the team out. He's the one that's in charge of assembling the team, if we haven't had a leader since Reggie left...then it is his job to find one. Are we suddenly going to get good because Larry called the players out for leadership? No. This roster has mediocre written all over it, and that's what we are right now. I think I'd rather see this team continue to sink just so we can get a stud in the draft at this point because that's how desperate the times are to be painfully honest. That doesn't mean we can't still try to compete though.

No - its true - but it's the same crap he said last year, & the year before....
I just don't see the constructiveness in the statments. I suppose I give an exception if as you say it was just a portion of a 20 min talk, but IMO, this only goes to show what a poor job he 7 Donnie did/ are doing bringing in players to fix this.
This was 1 reason I was intriged by a guy like a Mark Jackson as a coach for us, because as a leader himself - & a former player - HE would have assumed that role till he could either develope one, or bring in one. I'm not saying he would be any better then JOB, but I have not been impressed w/ our rotations nor development, & we still suck defensively - Dick Harter or not!

You, know, my first thought about this news conference really was that Bird has decided to do everything he can to get JO to opt out.

Here's the full transcript, courtesy of pacers.com:

http://www.nba.com/pacers/news/bird_080222.html

From that it sounds like maybe he doesn't consider JO a leader in the clubhouse because at the moment, being injured, he is not entirely in the clubhouse. :dontknow:

Or maybe not. Anyway, I don't think Bird called the conference to announce "We need a leader!!!!!" I think he called it because the Pacers didn't make any deadline trades, and he knows a lot of the fans really wanted that.
