Just curious to see where exactly most Pacer fans see Shawne Williams fitting in with the future of this team.

I originally liked the idea of he and Granger as the wings, but with J.O.'s issues and Ike looking less likely like a pat of this team by the day, I'm beginning to rethink my opinion on Shawne playing PF on a regular basis.

The website 82games.com, which measures players performances to a ridiculous level, actually has Shawne being significantly more effective at PF than either SF or SG: LINK

Of course that could be the results of Shawne only being used at PF in situations that would be to his benefit, thus the inflated production, but I found it interesting none the less.

He's a legit 6'9" in shoes with a impressive 7'3" wingspan. There are starting power forwards in the league smaller than that on teams that aren't playing "small ball".

Honestly, I put starting PF. I should have put something else. I think he'll be like Al Harrington was. 6th man, then traded for need.

For the near future, I see him as a 6th man capable of filling in at SG, SF, and PF off the bench. There is no doubt he's a very good scorer, so I could see him as a guy who lights up the scoreboard off the bench for us.

I see him as a poor man's carmelo anthony.. I like him being plugged in at the 3/4.

I see him as our starting Power Forward/6th man in the future. He is still young and can get more bulk.

He will start against most teams and fast up and down teams (think Golden State, Suns) but maybe against the bigger NBA bodies he will come of the bench as the 6th man at power forward or small forward

I think 6th man would be a good fit for him.

personally id like to see him become a 4 like bird initially said he would be. best case scenario is he develops into an al harrington type player for us (hopefully better, but we'll see) at the 4 and can space the floor for whoever we have as a post option. then have ike off the bench if he does develop. either way though, i just dont want him moved, we need young talent and we need to keep what we have.

all of this will be a moot point if we end up with beasley in the draft though

I would hate Beasley, he has a huge attitude problem, already yells at his coaches and teammates. I'd LOVE to have Rose or Jordan though.

I am in the solo club of thinking that we move Granger and slot Williams in the 3. I think that Granger is what he is, and we could get nearly a kings ransom for him right now. Williams will be as good if not better in the end.

Williams will be a Al Harrington at best in my eyes. Granger is taking over this team. Whats the point of trading our best player who is still young? We would be the Clippers of the 90's, the NBA development team.

from what ive heard, his attitude problem isnt as bad as some people say. i dunno, i could be wrong, and if i am, maybe he matures like we're seeing mayo do a bit lately. im kinda torn between who id pick, rose or beasley, id probably pick rose based on our need, but beasley is an amazing talent

Not a surprise, but i couldn't agree more.

I think Williams is a Harrington at best, however, i'm not too sure if he'll even be that. Williams is very streaky, very inconsistent. I know Harrington was very inconsistant early in his career too but he didn't benefit from a year in college like Williams did so one could say Williams should have been more "nba ready".

I think he lacks the heart and the desire to be a top notch player. He's definetly a NBA player, but i don't know if he'll ever be a 6th man, but im pretty sure that he'll never be a starter in this league.

I think Shawne's far smoother and smarter than Al was. He's also got much longer arms, which combined with the smarts, makes him a much better defensive prospect imo.

At the same time, he will never be a lockdown defender like Granger is becoming.

I would like to see either Shawne or Danny as the starting power forward. I dont think that either one of them is well suited to play the 4, but in a perfect world, that is what I would want. I think one of them will actually start at shooting guard.

I read before the deadline that teams were most interested in Granger, Williams, and Dunleavy, but Bird didnt want to trade those guys. I like holding onto Danny and Shawne, but if we get a good offer for Dunleavy in the offseason, I say we take it. We are cluttered at the 3, and at this point, that is where all three of them are best suited at.

It is almost impossible to tell at this moment. Yes, Williams is very, very inconsistent now. Having said that, if he matures and keeps improving I could see him ending up where Granger i now. However, if he keeps smoking and makin bad decisions he could be in Europe in 5 years. I think the truth will lie somewhere in beteween and he will be a role player, but we shall see. His is still awfully young.

I like what Williams has done so far and think he has a good chance to be a good NBA player.

I think he has more natural ability than Al Harrington, but it's up to him to do something with it.

I look forward to seeing Granger and Williams as our bookend starting forwards someday. Put a good center with those two, and we could have a really nice frontcourt. Not sure where that leaves Dunleavy though.
