It was stated by Indystar.com that the Pacers are expected to sign Flip Murray tomorrow to help out the backcourt.

I think its a great signing considering. Thoughts?

Rush? Daniels? Does Flip play point too?

I'm kinda confused by this
To answer the question above, I do think he can play some point.
I think this says something more about the status of Tinsley!
(& maybe Shawne too? maybe a "suspention"?)

I don't understand what the point of signing a almost 30-year old PG is? I liked his game when he played for Seattle, but it's been down hill ever since then. All he will do for us is ruin our draft position.

Although i do think this means Shawne Williams could be in some serious problems with management.

Well, this could be an indication that Tinsley may be out for a lot longer, or simply done for the season.

We don't know what's going to happen with Shawne until it's revealed whether he was just an innocent (albeit somewhat stupid) bystander in the latest events, or an active participant.

I'm guessing the contract will be just until the end of the season and it fits with them still trying to win and get in the playoffs.

He might take some minutes from Daniels, or take some pressure off Diener, if it's cheap and under the tax, I don't think it's a bad move...not great, but not bad.

I agree w/ you count
(IMO) *Tinsley is likely not coming back t/y. I also think this is a signing just till the end of the yr. That said:
I'd rather sign a guy like T.Lue then Murry (again, IMO). He has speed & is more of a true PG, but also has a nice shot. Murry is more of a SG who can play PG.

*As far as the Tinsley thing goes, one has to wonder how much of this is his "knee" or how much of this is him "screwing us over" again. I just can not get the Peter Vesey story out of my mind - coupled w/ how he seemingly got so much worse immediately after the "film-session incident" happened just before the GS game, & right after that horrific game out west when he shot us to a loss l/m. I know Shawne decision making w/ regards to his "friends" has hurt the image of the team in the public more of late, but I have to ask:
Who is hurting the team over-all more Tin's or SW? (I vote Tin's)

Oh, it's certainly Tinsley who has and will continue to hurt the team more, if for no other reason than the fact that in those moments where he actually plays to his potential, we're a good team.

As to the Williams incident, I'm still of the opinion that I don't know all of the facts. If he was completely unaware the guy was there, then you try to figure out how to help him extricate himself from a family and background fraught with risk. If he's involved, then we've got to cut him loose and move on.

Flip does not play defense and he isn't really a PG so this move confuses me. I liked what we saw from Stephen last night so play him at wing more and maybe sign Lue at PG.

....yawn...we have better players on the roster.

I would have rather seen us sign Dale Davis,or someone like that to help with the low post defence until JO come back if he even does, but to me it seems Foster is starting to wear down doing it on his own.

This reminded me of the intense Harrington for Flip Murray (then for the Sonics) trade discussions this board had a few years back. Flip is a solid bench guy, but I don't really see the point to be honest. I highly doubt he's going to put us back into serious playoff contention. I don't think this signing speaks well for Jamaal Tinsley's health or Andre Owens for that matter. Still, at least he'll give us another solid back-court player for the near future.

When Flip burst onto the scene with the Sonics, he was energetic and a legit threat.

I agree w/ Count that JT will be done for awhile, so Larry is just adding depth to our backcourt. Hopefully to preserve our guards and not to interfere with the chemistry Diener and Rush are building at the moment. This could prove vital next season and beyond, in regards to our bench-play, but is contingent upon us resigning Kareem.

Like some of you I am confused by this signing.

I liked Flip when he played for the sonics.

He is a SG by nature who can fill in PG minutes.
To me he is very similar to Daniels and will take away his minutes.

This will leave Owens out of the rotation, reduce Daniels' time.

Diener looks like he will start and I still think that Kareem will be the first off the bench.
Where Flip and Daniels fit in I am confused.

He's a rich mans Andre Owens. He's here to be the backup point guard, something neither Quis nor Owens could handle.

greenway's a Pacer regular, but the joke was tired.

I think we are probably in the process of phasing Daniels out, to some degree. I don' t think TPTB are happy with him, on or off the court...

That being said, I still think Flip is just a signing to help at the Point, maybe some 2, made by a Front Office and Coaching staff still trying to make the playoffs.

I too think that Quisy for 3sy is gonna be heard less and less... And for good reason. He's very inconsistent.

I like the Flip signing. Our bench play becomes unwatchable when Diener sits for long periods of time. The offense becomes stagnant and Quisy can only score one way: Getting deep into the paint. He doesn't draw fouls very well and often makes bad playmaking decisions w/ the ball.

Flip can score or be a playmaker. I prefer him to do what he's always done, and that's be a scorer first, then use the extra attention he gets to dish off to Kareem and Co.

The only question I have is will the PA play "Game Over!" whenever Murray scores...
