Pacers fans embracing new players
I was at the P's and Bucks game on Sunday and the whole game I kept telling my buddy how I wanted Flip to get in the game. Well when OB put him in finally the crowd gave him such a warm welcome. It felt really cool to know that there are still Pacers fan here in the state and we do still care about our team, even if the attendance figures don't reflect it. The type of reception the fans in Conseco gave Flip is indicative of our attitude towards our players. We WANT to love our players. They have been making it hard on us for a few years but we still find bright spots and give them the benefit of the doubt a lot of times. Flip Murray has never been more than a role player for any of the 4 or 5 teams he's been on, but we still embrace him with a standing ovation. I love being from here and having the love for basketball that I and most of the state has. Now if we could get rid of the last of the obvious issues that we have, we can get back to being that model of consistency that we always were in the 90's. There was really no major point to this thread other than to post my first topic and show our team some love because it gets a little depressing hearing all the bad mouthing all the time.
P.S. I miss the Jackson Jiggle!!!

I think I was that Buddy at the game!! Steve that you??
I was holding out to become the longest tenured registered member without a post, but since I am being talked about, I must stop lurking and start contributing.
I must agree the reception when Flip got in the game was amazing. Probably the loudest I have heard for a player entering a game in the 4 games I have attended this year. I believe it was in part due to a "mob" mentality. A few of us began to cheer and the rest of the stadium followed suit. Regardless, hopefully Flip felt welcomed and hopefully some of our "questionable character" guys took note of the fan support for a guy with a clean slate. Maybe it will motivate them to get their acts together and mend the relationship with the fan base.

I actually found it by googling Artest trade rumors, I believe the summer of 2005 (over a year before we actually traded him--best i recall).
I have come back nearly every day since, usually 3 times a day (every break while at work). I finally joined about a year ago but never actually posted, seems how the regulars are a little intimidating to the newbies!! I have raved to a couple friends about the site ever since finding it, and believe both of them have been daily lurkers ever since as well.

haha nice story.
No problem man. Just feel free to post away. The Pacers community here is really cool. Lot of high basketball IQs as Larry Bird would call it. This places gets really active when something good happens, lol, it's been a bit on the slow side ever since the deadline though, i think people are just very disappointed. It'll pick up ALOT esspicially by the draft. Glad to have you guys aboard.
Since you guys been lurking for that long, you've been here longer then me. I found this place searching rumours during the playoffs and found it. Signed up the day i saw it and been posting ever since.

If you two have been lurking around for a while you've probably already seen this. Either way, there's never a bad time to dust this thread off.

I believe the correct word is "crotchety".
I also tend to get the occasional urge to be surly (which I have no problem indulging)...however, I'm never sullen. Sullen is really an emo-teen type of thing. I'm way too old for sullen.

I have no idea what you're talking about, and clearly, neither do you.

Welcome fellas. I think that the Pacer board is one of if not the best ran ones here. Not only do the mods mod, but they are great posters...
You think that us Pacer fans are a little intimidating!?!? LOL Try coming in at the height of the tweety/Forest and PF@IU/Jermaniac rumbles. Those were some intimidating times!! lol, but they were always entertaining There are only a few posters around that were here while that is going on.

Well I've been wanting to finally register for a long time but I never took the time to get my account activated with a "non-free" email addy. Finally did that so I'm sure I'll be posting pretty frequently. I never get sick of talking about the P's.
Feel the rhythm! Feel the rhyme! Get on up, it's bobsled time!

I joined right before all of that, and let myself get caught up in it. Probably lucky to never get suspended over it. Fun times.

Over my years of reading on Realgm, I have not felt the Pacer mods have been terrible. In fact, I am sure they are among the best on Realgm. My comment about lurking wasn't even directed at the mods, but more to all the regulars. They seem to haze the new members (as all good fraterities should). Many times they jump on every "misremberance" of facts posted by new members and it seems like I even remember former attacks on bad grammer/spelling/etc.-I do not know if they were new members or those trolling from other boards (Perhaps these were part of the attacks in the aforementioned feuds)
These events always made me leary of posting, as I didn't feel the need fight with someone over the internet!!!
No matter what the subject matter, I have enjoyed getting the bulk of my Pacer news and insight for the last several years here on Realgm. I am now glad to be a contributing member of the forum. And hopefully I can survive the hazing to become a member of the "fraterity"
