Pacers' CEO Donny Walsh isn't planning to retire after all. "I decided to stay home for a weekend to see if I could take doing nothing. I went stir crazy."
Melvin and Herb Simon, who are trying to sell the team, would love to see Walsh stay put. I don't see that happening. Larry Bird has been calling the shots for two seasons.

No source, no evidence, no quote. Appositives are taken lightly.

Didn't he just say he didn't want to sell the team? There is no quote in here or anything. This means nothing.

As i've always said, Vescey is as good of a source as it gets with the Pacers. He is very in with either Donnie Walsh, Larry Bird or someone else in the high ups. He's ALWAYS right when he talks about the Pacers and many times he's stories are correct while others' arn't (like Tinsley incident for example).

Vescey's been right with the Pacers a very small percentage. He has broken a few things, but he's also guessed completely wrong on many, many occasions as well.

I've always found Vecsey to be full of ****.

Q. If and when it does get to that point, would you like to keep it in the Simon family?
A. I have absolutely no plans other than to keep it just the way it is, yes.

Q. When you say you're going to make changes, are you looking at the roster?
A. Everything but the owner right now.

gee, who do I belive? Vecsey or Simon?

Vescey has spoken. Now you can rest easy knowing that the team won't be sold any time in the next decade.

I know it's Vescey, but this is not good to hear at all!

Dolon flew to Indy twice l/w, according to this story, w/ more rumors of NY trying to lure Walsh away.
Gotta start wondering w/ all the smoke if there is any fire to the rumors.....

The last time Vecsey was right about something with the Pacers was when he said Isiah was going to take over for Bird as coach...and we all know how well that worked out.

I'm not going to get too worked up about it if Walsh leaves the Pacers for the Knicks...he's been great for the Pacers, but he is near the end of his career and I think it's time for some new blood.

Besides, I'll believe it when I see it.

According to a high-ranking Pacers official, the team's co-owners, Herbert and Melvin Simon, are hoping to retain Walsh and fire team president Larry Bird. The same source indicated that Walsh has too much respect for Bird to fire him and then reassume full control of the team.

That is the exact scenario I want to see happen. I dont know how much stock I take in Walsh having too much respect for Bird to fire him...he said the same thing about Isiah Thomas in New York. I would love to see Walsh lead the rebuild of the Pacers and Bird go ruin some other franchise. The Simons have to act this summer. No more band-aids, we need wholesale changes.

He was right alot more time then that. I remember he was the first to get the Tinlsey story correct, everyone else had false info but his report was the true one... also he had us talking to Golden State while nobody had us making a blockbuster deal last year. And then Dunleavy and Muprhy were here....

WOW. So, they want a new GM? Who would be the choices i wonder? And i wonder if that means JOB would be cut loose too?

I'd say there'd be a 50/50 shot. Obviously JOB is a Bird pick and JOB left Boston because of a rebuild. But on the other hand given the giant catastrophe that is our salary cap, a GM might prefer to just suck it up and handle that first as JOB isn't a bad coach. We're not talking Mike Woodson, we're talking a guy that coached a team to the ECF who has a relatively cheap deal.

If they do let go of Bird, which i personally don't see for 2 reasons. 1. I don't think he is doing that bad of a job and i think he's just a deal or two away from making us big winners again, we're not that far from being a top 4 team in the east. But also 2. It's Larry Bird. It's a slap in the face to fire the "legend". No way. In the era of negative PR that has killed our team, i don't think they will go to the extreme and fire him. It'd be a PR hell.

If they do fire him, i wouldn't mind Marc Jackson OR Scott Skiles named coach, like the article mentions that Walsh could bring one of them to the Garden to coach the Knicks. I wouldn't mind either of those 2 in Indianapolis.

I do. We're not as bad as many think we are. We have a good foundation. I think they need to add a bit and add though the draft and trade some of our assets to gain more depth.

This is one of the worst seasons i can remember being a Pacers fan. And somehow, we're still in the chase for the playoffs. Think about that. If we had Tinsley and O'Neal for the full season we'd be a lock for 6th or 7th seed in the east, which isn't saying much i know because we have a few cancers on the team. We need to add players, the 1-2 big deal, like i said, and add via subtraction. Like cutting loose Tinsley and Harrison. The cancers of the team.

Their not far away guys. I know it's hard to say because each game we watch them play so bad, but their not far away from contending for the 4th seed.
