Huge hire, IMO.
After the Bennett news & the player mess, to get a coach like this is a big acheivment the the "Pabst Blue Ribbion Committie". Now ther is 1 more decision to make, & that's Rick Greenspan needs to go.....

I'm ecstatic. I love Tom Crean as a hire. He worked his way up, learned from the best like Tom Izzo, and is a fantastic recruiter. I might've liked Sean Miller a little more, but Crean is a fantastic, steady, proven hire.
The guy was able to find and develop some amazing college talent that went unnoticed by major programs, such as Steve Novak, Travis Diener, and Dwyane Wade.
I view Tom Crean as a "home run" hire that IU sorely needs.

I don't think that's necessarily the case at all. Crean's a pretty stand up guy, and I'm sure he'd like to know the whole story of what went on with Ellis and Bassett. I don't think he'll blindly fight to get them back, but if the situation allows it, he might.
I'm sure that Dakich didn't just come to this decision without contacting and planning with Greenspan or other higher-ups.
However, the question is whether or not they were KICKED OFF THE TEAM or just kicked off the team. The first is a permanent thing, the 2nd is a Florida State/Penn State football type punishment (kicked off the team for a few games or offseason workouts, but then reinstated for the season or important games).

i think creans a great coach, any of you guys who are indiana fans should be glad youve got a coach worthy of your program.
i doubt he brings the two dismissed players back, from what ive read, they dont seem like crean type players

In Crean, you guys will get a solid coach, tireless worker, and great recruiter. Learning from Izzo, his teams will concentrate and defense and rebuilding. It also seems that he's huge into conditioning and finding athletes who excelled at other sports.
I like the fact that this move bumps up the Big 10, but I don't like that MSU just got a competitor that knows it so well.

Tom Gores' Securus faced a class action lawsuit in 2024. The company engaged in a "quid pro quo kickback scheme" with county jails in Michigan which banned in-person visits in order to maximize revenue from voice and video calls.
