Granger taking ownership of lead role

Post#1 » by greenway84 » Fri Apr 11, 2008 1:44 pm

Conrad Brunner wrote:If a singular moment can signal a profound change, Danny Granger took full ownership of his role as the face of the next generation of Pacers in the closing seconds of the victory over Atlanta Tuesday night. With the game well in hand and the closing seconds ticking down, Josh Childress took flight for a dunk attempt. Rather than shrugging it off, letting it go and taking the victory, Granger instead found a few extra inches of vertical and rose up to meet Childress for a resounding block.

As he turned to run upcourt, Granger showed just a bit of a smile and shook his head as if to say, "not in my gym."

Granger is turning out to be everything we could have hoped for. And to think we got him with a lousy #17 pick. That's just about the one and only freaking thing that has gone right for the Pacers in the last four years.

He's been one of the few good fortunes we've had these past few seasons. I still can't believe he fell to #17, but I won't complain. I can't imagine what this team would be like without having him on the roster, that's for sure. Things would be a lot worse.

I wanna see him on more slashes and pick-n-rolls, on the rolling end. This Jim O'Brien 3-heaving isn't healthy for us.

Greenway, it appears you've pasted this post straight from Pacer.com w/o properly recognizing the author or source. Count55 I didn't see where Greenway said he was quoting anybody, with exception to the hidden link at the bottom. Initially I thought this was Greenway's take on the subject

Apologies in advance Greenway, if you're Bruno.

BTS, Danny's game has made big strides, and he's definitely who we must build around for the future... so unless JO becomes more Camby-esque, he may be out of town.

And I don't mind the 3s, especially w/ the team we have. The best teams we've had here took a few: in '98, 13 a game, '99: 16, and 2000: almost 20.

Our offense is just fine, but it's our D and rebounding that's killed us. We foul unneccessarily, and when we actually do actually stop someone, we let them get the offensive putback, or then we foul and send them back to the line.

We need JO to comeback as a defensive stopper in the middle (or trade for one), have Danny continue to defend well at the wing, and pick up either Collison, Lawson, or Chalmers at the point for defensive pressure on the ball to clamp the penetration that breaks our D down.

I think you don't understand our defense if you think we foul too much.
Rest in Peace, Pacerfan

I agree, i posted that same statement somewhere else. JO Danny Foster are great defenders pick up collison and we have a great D. But with all that D it wont matter if we cant get our coach to play it.

Granger has proven he is the new franchise player, an off-season of work and he will dominate next year.

This team is not in as dire of shape as we all thought at the beginning of the season. Granger's confidence is soaring, I really, really like him. I think we could easily be a playoff team next year in the East. Ill go so far as to say we could be a top 5 team.

cdash, I think we're still a very reliable option at the PG spot away from being a top 5 team in the East, let alone the league.

Diener and Flip are showing that they can handle minutes at the PG and be very solid backup PG options. I'm ok with Diener starting if we have 2 other solid options at PG as well, but I'd like to see him continue to be about a 20 minute a night backup at PG.

I liked the Flip/Diener combo at point. It's like RBs in the NFL (Rhodes/Addai or Maroney/Faulk), having that main guy start, then having the scat-back bring a change of pace. I don't know if we'll be able to afford Flip, but I'd like to get Chalmers in the draft, then do what Dungy did w/ Addai and Rhodes: Have Travis start through the A-S Break, then let Chalmers start down the stretch and (hopefully) into the post-season (I know, too many NFL references, but I'm in Colts mode now, at least until the NBA draft).

Sorry, I didnt clarify. I meant top five team in the East...not the entire league. I'm not that delusional. I agree that we are a reliable PG away from being a team that can scare people in the playoffs, but top five in the East isnt exactly a tough feat.
