Everyone keeps talking about resigning rush, but i was thinking instead we could sign a younger gerald green probably for less.

I'd rather sign Rush, but the Pacers are hardly going to have any money to spend this summer.

Greene may or may not have potential, but he needs to go somewhere to get regular playing time and learn how to play. He probably isn't going to get regular playing time for the Pacers, even if we signed him. Best thing for him is probably to go overseas for at least a season or two IMO.

Ditto. If we can sign either for equal money we have to go with Rush. He's a better shooter, we get one year closer to having his Bird rights (which will mean a lot when we have to re-sign everyone else and don't have money for a free agent), and he's got a year in the system. If we can get a rebounder (preferrably a C like Hibbert or Thabeet) in the draft, Rush will be a lot more useful because we won't have just one shot every posession.

I would actually like both (I love GG's upside), but we has GG in S.Williams (IMO). If SW (or Dun) is dealt, then I could see a GG signing, but he is likely to go elsewhere where there's more opportunity.
Rush showed me something, but unless we make a deal to lower salary, KR is likely gone too. (I thought we could have/ should have dealt him at the deadline to a contender).
Beyond that, don't look us to sign any "names". We have major cap issues w/ what we got.

I don't think we need to sign anyone honestly. We already have a great bench. Is Diogu a FA this year or next? We should sign him if its this year. Other than that we are good.

Thats a solid rotation, that doesn't even include our 11th pick.

I am all for signing Gerald Greene, he'd have the oppurtunity to earn significant minutes behind Dunleavy and Granger, and at 6'7" he offers the potential to unearth a quality true 2-guard, on the cheap.


Somebody will offer Rush a deal similar to what we gave Anthony Johnson ( 4 yrs 12 million). I really don't want to give 3 mill per for Rush if we could get Greene for 1-2 yrs/ 900K- 1.8 mill. Daniels also expires at the end of next season, creating even more playing time for GG.

Boneman, I think you've essentially laid out the probably Pacers plan for Kareem Rush. He seems to have resurrected his career here, but will likely receive a contract of around half the MLE or more from another team. He might let us match, but I doubt we'll be able to since we're butting up to the luxury tax next year without him. I think, essentially, the Pacers will look to re-sign Kareem, but probably end up signing someone else for the minimum to save some money. Gerald Green could very well be that minimum salary guy unless someone else is a little more interested in him.

I am personally no a big Gerald Green guy. I mean there is a reason Houton cut him and he couldn't make it in Minnesota. Also, I believe he would get very little playing time in Indiana. Bad idea all the way around.

Matt Carroll signed for 6 yrs, 27 mill last season. If he can't get 5 million per year then no way should Rush approach that IMO. We shall see however.

I think the starting PG should be the first consideration. After watching some games, I think Murray is not that steady to be a starter and Travis Diener is better as a bench player. And I don't think the Pacers should rely on Tinsley anymore.

There are many good point guards in the FA market this summer, such as Carlos Arroyo, Chris Duhon, Eddie House, and Roger Mason. I think signing a FA PG is more important than resigning Kareem Rush.

I'd rather draft a PG than sign another one.

We'll probably look into resigning Rush, but if he gets too pricey, we'll look for a cheaper alternative. I could see us signing a cheap third string center though as it seems Harrison could very well be on his way out.

Gerald Green has no concept of how to play organized basketball. Thanks, but no thanks.

This isnt so much on signing a free agent, but I am interested to see how the point guard situation in Toronto plays out. I have to assume that they wont let Calderon go, and they are expecting another Euro stud PG to come aboard next year...which leaves TJ Ford as the odd man out. I dont necessarily love him, and he is injury prone, but if we could get him as a stop gap/tutor for a young point guard that we draft, I think its something to look into. I dont know what Toronto would want for him, but its worth looking into.

Okay, I'll rephrase. He has an insanely low basketball IQ. We dont need anyone that plays his position, and our money would be better spent on a serviceable big man or a point guard.

I wouldn't mind seeing the Pacers giving Dahntay Jones a chance this offseason. I went to the last Mad Ants game this past weekend and looked pretty impressive until he got ejected late in the 3rd for arguing with the refs. Other than that, he looked pretty solid defensively and offensively (scoring 19). Also, he was very aggressive going to the paint which is something this team needs.

Lets not resign Harrison' if he's that expesenive. Maybe pick up a d-leaguer or use a 2nd round pick on a project.

It's news to me that Dahntay Jones is on our NBDL affiliate. He's probably good enough to be on someone's NBA roster. He might be worth a look. He's athletic and can defend and is a pretty good finisher around the rim.

Flip might be able to be re-signed as a LLE type player. I think if he's signed to that extension, he gets something like $2.5 million, but only counts on our luxury tax as being $800,000 or something like that. You can only use the LLE once every two years though.

However, most everyone we pick up this offseason is going to be league minimum type players, except for our lotto pick.

If Flip is resigned, O'Brien may need to downgrade his perpetual green light to perhaps a yellow light, because that guy is a chucker. I realize that is his niche in the league, as a scorer, but he throws up some pretty abysmal shots.

No doubt about it, but he has always played that way. You can't teach an old dog new tricks, and I think that applies to Murray and his decision making.

I think that Flip will be a good and cheap player to have on the roster, but I still hope Rush is re-signed
