Where Are They Now?: Pacers Edition

Post#1 » by SuperReggie31 » Wed May 14, 2008 10:28 pm

There is a blog at Pacers.com that has researched the current whereabouts of former Pacer players in Europe and how they are doing.

Follow the link for the webpage.

wow awesome link. The other day i was just wondering what Travis Best was up to. lol

I can't believe he's 36 years old! WOW. And he's still playing ball in Europe. Either he really really loves the game, or he is just desperate for money. lol I wonder why he stopped being in movies, he played a role in He got Game. lol

Cought my eye was Rawle Marshall. I thought he was OK with us, he's still young. Only 26 and doing very well in Serbia, usually a tough league to play in.

Also, another note on this- which may be a whole different topic, but they need to finally sign Erazem Lorbek and bring him to Indiana. The guy isn't getting any younger. He's a pretty decent prospect and he's been playing out of his mind in Europe. Last season they aired a few of his EuroLeague games on NBA TV and announcers had so much good things to say about him. He is a star player in Europe but most notably he steps up his game in big games.....

And one last thing, Barac is looking like a bust. I don't care what that poster "StankoBarac" says. Stats don't lie and he keeps getting loaded out. He must not be impressing his coaches and his stats are just awful. I understand he's young but come on....

Bird doesn't appear to want to do anything with these European guys, I hope he stops drafting them if he doesn't bring Lorbek over for next season.

Stats in Europe dont mean as much as they do here. A bunch of guys average underwhelming point totals and such. Basically, calling Stanko a bust this early is a little premature. I am ready to see Lorbek over though. He cant be a whole lot worse than Harrison in the rotation.

Bird was talking before this season that Stanko would be over after his current contract in Europe expires in another 2 years, at the earliest. He also said all summer long that he was planning on bringing Lorbek over for next season. He's got plans for them, and has always seemed to have plans for them.

I'm not basing it on stats. His minutes are slim and he is loaned out alot, to lower teams, so he can get more playing time. Many of the Euros who do make it, are good enough to play some time and have little stats but those teams keep them and develop them, Barac is thrown all over. Next season is the big year, he's played a full season in a mens league, now his loan ends and he returns to TAU, who are a power in Spain. They have Tiago Splitter who i believe is coming to the Spurs next season. If Barac makes it and gets quality time, not concerned about stats, then i will be happy, but i don't see him making this squad yet.

And like i said, i have been following Lorbek and do hope he comes. He seems ready. He plays good defense and sees the court very well. I think he can shock alot of people and actually, i think he may even be worthy of starting if need be. He can have the same type of impact as Jorge Garbajosa only difference is, Jorge came when he was like 29 and now after his injury, his career is probably going to go down hill, Lorbek is only 23 and could improve with NBA expierence.
