If the Magic really do want a bigger point guard -- and would risk messing up the chemistry here -- Indiana wants to move on without Jamaal Tinsley, who is a true, pass-first point guard with great court vision. He also is ready to win now. His issue has been injuries and an inability to stay healthy. The Pacers have shown a liking for point guard Jameer Nelson and his confidence, and the two contracts match up well enough. The Magic might even get the Pacers to swap draft positions if they do it.

I don't think Pacers would get Nelson for Tinsley. That be a too big of a risk for Orlando i think. I wonder if they would deal their first round pick for Tinsley? lol Prolly not. Or working a deal for JJ Reddick? We love shooters....

I'd do it in a heartbeat. Tinsley+Ike, but I think the writer is just throwing out ideas and hoping it sticks.

I don't know if we should have any interest in a straight up Tinsley for Jameer deal. Nelson has a 5 year deal kicking in next year that pays him $7.6 million a year. I don't see him as much more than an MLE type player, and 5 years is an awful long time. We only have to pay Tinsley for 3 more years. Let's just get out of the Tinsley mistake, or make it shorter.


I sure as heck wouldn't trade down to Orlando's spot just to swap Tinsley for more money and years in Nelson.

I'd trade Tinsley straight up for Tony Battie. They could throw in Marcin Gortat if need be financially.

Yikes, I don't want any part of Nelson for that kind of commitment.

I would, however, be willing to take whatever pu-pu platter of short-term contracts Orlando agrees to give us for Tinsley. I wouldn't need a draft pick, not even a second-rounder, just a chance to ship Tinsley out of town and save a little money.

I would hate this if we swapped draft picks. I'd rather Tinsley play 30 games a year than move down 11 spots in the draft for someone who isn't going to take us to the next level.

I think Hoopshype.com might be off. I think it's 5 straight years of $7.6 million exact each year. Sham at shamsports.com (he posts here on RealGM.com as well) usually does a much better job of keeping up to date salary information.

I'd still do it. 7.6 million isn't that bad for a young solid starting PG, especially when in the playoffs, he's coming off of 16 ppg 4 rebounds and 4.7 assists. I like him just as much as I like DJ Augustin. I think this is an idea more so than it's a rumor however.

They have the same numbers...looks like it was a rookie contract extension...a pretty lucrative one, at that.

Tinsley is honestly a better point guard than Nelson when he's healthy. Again, as is always the case with Jamaal, health dictates his career. I dont think I would trade Tins for Nelson. We dont need to add more long term contracts to guys who may or may not deserve the money they are making. We rolled the dice with Murphy and Dunleavy and lucked out that Dunleavy stepped up his game, but now we are saddled with Murphys immovable deal. I'd pass.

Murphy is over-payed, but not near as much as people make it sound. I was very impressed with how he played in the second half of the year. I think he will only improve with a healthier JO. I really don't even want to move him.

I'd like to be optimistic, but I don't see Murphy as fitting in with JO too well. I see Murphy as much more effective at the 4, and that Murphy's increase in production came with JO's injury and the lack of JO on the court.


I'd gladly move Murphy as I see him as a 6th man type player getting paid a starter's salary. I'd be much more apt to keeping him if we move JO, as I don't think Diogu is going to earn the minutes here long-term. If JO is moved and we don't get a solid option back at PF, Murphy would be the immediate replacement.

Murphy's going to be paid an average of $11mm per year for the next three years. Even assuming his post-All-Star numbers of 14.8 pts and 7.7 rebs, that's grossly overpaid. Foster is slated to make $5.5mm next year and Dunleavy will be paid about $9.8mm (averaged) over the next three years, and Murphy should probably be closer to Jeff than Junior.

I wouldn't mind trading Murphy, just not for a slob who won't play at all for us. Most people seem to be willing to trade him for anything.

I'd trade him for expirings. I'd trade him for a shorter contract (ANY shorter contract) and some value (like a 1st rounder) if it was offered.

Yeah I would trade Murphy for expirings in a heartbeat. Or even a collection of scrubs with shorter, more movable contracts. $11 million a year is a ton of money on our cap. You can find a lot of guys making about half of what he makes with the same numbers, and they probably wouldnt be such liabilities on the defensive end.

I would trade Tinsley for Reddick. Getting anything at all for JT at this point would be a plus.

I read somewhere, from someone claiming to know someone in the know ( a bit ridiculous but....) that Tinsley was all but done with Indiana. Even if the Pacers have to cut him, he is out.

I don't know, Indy isn't the team to have ever cut a guaranteed contract that had more than one year left on it. The last guaranteed contract I remember being cut was James White, and I don't remember the next one before it.


Anyone know another guaranteed contract that was longer than one year that was cut by the Pacers before?
