Kevin Love

Post#1 » by Indy07 » Mon May 26, 2008 8:45 pm

I know the majority of Pacer fans want us to go PG, realistically Augustine since Westbrook most likely will be gone.. However I honestly do not see Augustin becoming a formidable pro or our long term solution at PG. However if Kevin Love falls to us, I think with his improved conditioning and his overall game, a quicker paced game like JOB's could suit him very well. I think he would be a great pick for the Pacers. I want to know what you guys of Love and/or do you think Augustin is a long term solution at PG?

Love and Augustine are probably the two people I least want the Pacers to pick. I see both of them being decent role players at best. I'll be surprised if Augustine lasts 6 years in the NBA, and I think Love gets more hype than he should because he went to UCLA. I think he could have a long NBA career, but as a bench guy. I can't see Love being a quality starter.

I'm hoping we don't draft either of those two.

And I couldn't agree more. The fact is that even if he has lost the weight he claims to, is in the shape he claims to be in, and even if he is able to remain in that condition, we don't know if it makes him any better for the running game. That's an awfully big chance to take on the #11 pick, and we already have JO there. If we traded with Cleveland and got the #19 and he fell there, we'd have to look at him there, but I'm sure there's somebody who would take that risk on him before he got to #15.

I would not have any problem and would be happy to draft LOVE. That would mean maybe Pacers have traded J.O.

Spotty logic there if you ask me. First of all, I dont know how long we will use this "running" system, but if the guy can play, he can play. I disagree that he couldnt flourish in that system anyways, he is a fantastic outlet passer. He was the most polished big man in college basketball last year (aside from Beasley), and usually guys like that go before the 11th pick (Love probably will too). So what if we have JO there. How long do you expect him to be in a Pacers uniform? The longest I expect him to stay is through the duration of his contract, and he'll probably be gone before that. Not to mention if he is on the team, he's usually injured. No reason not to draft a young big if you ask me.

I'm not as high on Love as I am Augustin, which is what I disagreed more with in that post. Out of the league in six years? Wow. Strong statement there.

I agree and disagree.

I would not mind Augustine. He is a good player and his only liability is his height (and defense as a result). Otherwise I think he is exactly what we need.

I just don't buy into the kevin Love hype. No doubt he is a good player and can initiate the fast break with his outlet passes but he is too unathletic and somewhat short for a power forward. He does remind me a little of Troy Murphy.

Just a question. If Eric Gordon is still available on the board when we draft, would you guys take him instead of the others who are projected around our pick (i.e. Jordan, Augustine, Love, Westbrook etc)

If Gordon's there we have to take him. He's got ball handling problems, but that can be fixed. Even if Mayo fell to 11 with his character problems we'd have to take him. I fail to see how my logic is "spotty" as well. We have a running team right now, so why draft a player we can assume can't fit the system? If we're going to do that, we need to trade away most of our team to change the system they run best. If you know JOB you know that won't happen. I agree that Augustin will have a more solid career than he's given credit for, but I still think he's a reach at 11. Love has enough talent that he will more than likely be taken before we get on the board, but if he should fall I would think it would be a bad idea to draft a guy we don't know will fit in the system to sit behind one of our top players even if it is only for two years. That high we can get a guy that can start...hopefully a center who can run and rebound or a point guard who can hold on to the ball and stay healthy. Staying out of jail is a plus, too.

Agree about Gordon, if he's there we take him.

The logic is spotty because you just assume that Love couldnt play in an up-tempo system just because he is not super athletic. Plenty of guys play in systems that dont suit their exact gamestyle, but it isnt a huge hindrance on them. If he was that bad of a fit, I'd agree with you, but if he is there at #11 its likely that he will be the best available player and you just cant pass on a guy because he isnt a sparkling fit in your system. Its funny you mention that if we are drafting a guy at #11, he can start. Love is one of the most NBA ready players in this draft. I dont see many people at #11 being able to start right away. Most players drafted outside the top ten dont start their first year.

I don't think saying theres a chance Augustin wouldn't last longer than 6 years in the NBA is a strong statement. Show me 1 college game against an NBA level PG in which he had a good game.

I looked at them, in the 6 or so games against NBA level PG's that he played in college this year, he struggled against every single one of them. Everyone of them aside from Rose will be a bench PG anyway and he still struggled.

Show me one game at all that DeAndre Jordon had a good game.

A good game? We've seen kids drafted on pure potential before that have become great. DeAndre Jordan is one of them. When he was put in during the briefest of moments in the tournament, he did really well, and showed everything that scouts would want.

Love is already at his ceiling. He's a known commodity, and someone who can only get a bit better as time goes on. His domination at college is expected for those who want to take their games to the next level. But he's maxed out.

I am 100% against wasting a pick on Kevin Love. He doesn't run, he can outlet, but to whom? Who the heck is he going to outlet too? JT? Flip? Diener? Give me a break. We already have people who can outlet well, and really this isn't a good pick for us at all. There is no reason for us to take someone who would be a solid starter, but yet would be a bit slow for our system.

This is quite funny, the Italian kid is very very good, yet people complain because he's a 2/3/4. I don't see the logic of not picking the Italian but picking love.

Look, T-Murder can play, but he can't play next to JO. Baby Al could play, but he couldn't play next to JO. Kevin Love would be just the same. Deandre Jordan would be a great high/low, with him being the low option, since JO doesn't seem to want to play the low.

Hedo could play, but not for the Sours. Beno could play, but just not for the Spurs system.

There are plenty of people who can play, but just can't play given a system.
Rest in Peace, Pacerfan
Will eat crow if Brandon Rush turns out good.

I'm against drafting Kevin Love for the most part. I think he'll be a solid pro, but I don't see him as anything more than a role player. Don't we have enough of those? Cough*Foster*Cough*Murhphy* Plus, we'll be even slower and more unathletic? Wait, is that even possible? Kevin Love reminds me of when Nick Collison meets Shawn May. If he's the best player available at #11, by all indications, we should take him. However, I don't think he should be taken any higher than the #9 spot, and we certainly shouldn't trade up for him.

I really don't want Love or Jordan.

Jordan? The dude didn't even start, did he? His stats are pathetic as well.

That's what I have been saying.

Love = Unathletic
Love = Role player - doubt he will be an all star.
Love = Troy Murphy in my mind.
Love = No love from me with the 11th pick

Please don't get me wrong. I think he will be a good player in the NBA and wish him all the best but I hope that we don't draft him.

Jordan is being drafted on potential, Augustin is not. There is a huge difference that you can't even compare.

Who the heck drafts someone because "they have a great outlet pass"? yah yah i know "he's polished offensively" blah blah blah, Do we really want a slow, undersized Center? To me that screams DEFENSIVE LIABILITY. Which is the last thing this team needs. I'd rather take Augustine, I think Best case hes exactly the PG we've been looking for and worst case is a good backup.

Don't like Love one bit. His physical status and athleticism give me reason to believe the potential is mostly hype. I think his play last season although great for college, will not translate to the nba fluently.
If the Pacers choose to take a forward, i would much rather we take a gamble in moving up to take Anthony Randolph.

See I kinda do like Love, he is much more of a banger than Murphy. I see him as a better version of Jared Dudley who I also like pretty well
