Augustin/Westbrook

Who would you rather the Pacers draft? Augustin is a good offensive player, but I think that Westbrook is that defender and that one player that could really help us. Westbrook has a lot of room to grow too, as does Augustin. Your thoughts? Also, watching some clips of Jerryd Bayless, that kid is the next best point guard in the league. Mark my words. We need to find a way to grab him. He is going to be special. Great upside. Reminds me of Chris Paul.

How is this different from the Draft Board that DGrx has been running for the last month? Wouldn't our overall ranking from that answer this question? We're up to like #17, so I'm thinking both of these guys are already on there.
I have no idea what you're talking about, and clearly, neither do you.

Augustin over Russell Westbrook, but Brian Westbrook over both. The downing the ball on the 1 yard line was one of the smartest things I've ever seen, and if there's one thing we need on this team it's smart players. Granted, it wasn't his idea, but still...

I voted Westbrook but very tough choice. I picked because of defense.

Augustin can be more of a floor general though.

I'm going to go with Russell Westbrook right now, but I'm really interested in reading about some of their workouts. I think Westbrook has a greater upside if he can maximize his athleticism and further develops his all-around skills.

I'm literally torn evenly on these two players. They both seem like solid players (in slightly different ways though) and solid citizens. I like DJ's ability to hit the jump shot and drive in traffic while being a natural PG that distributes, but I also like Westbrook's defensive ability and ability to slide over to the 2 as well.

I would take Westbrook any day. He is a terrific defender (exactly what we need) and can play the point. His point skills can be developed in time and we would have, as it stands right now, Tins, Deiner, Quisy and Flip (if resigned) to help him develop.

After reading draftexpress I now really want Westbrook. They say he had a really good workout and is extremely athletic.

We already knew all that stuff about Westbrook. He still has the same questions he did before.

I am also talking about comparing him to Augustine. From the workouts it appears that Westbrook is a much better player than Augustine is.

Operative phrase there: "from the workouts". Workouts mean very little in the overall process. Most of this stuff we already knew about these players, and everyone knew that in such an environment Westbrook would look better than Augustin.

To me this is the most important question of the draft as these are the 2 guys I am most excited about (within our realistic range). To me Augustine is EXACTLY the kind of point guard we have been needing since Mark Jackson, but Westbrook is what we've needed since Artest, so... thats tough. Really tough. I guess it comes down to need, does this team need defense, scoring, and athleticism, or Leadership, Playmaking, and Speed? Its so close but I say Westbrook edges Augustine out barely due to the fact that the questions about Augustine's size and defense are a concern. But if he was a little bigger I'd take him for sure.
