Whats Your Nightmare Pick?

Post#1 » by Orlock78 » Mon Jun 2, 2008 3:36 am

Just out of curiosity, considering our draft position and who is likely to be available who do you think is the worst possible pick for the pacers?

Or the guy you just personally think is wrong for the team.

Personally, I pray upon everything holy that we stay as far away from Kevin Love as possible. I think with few exceptions he represents nearly everything we don't need. At least from a purely basketball perspective. Although I have to say DeAndre Jordan is a close second.

Derrick Rose. Because when I woke up I realized it wasn't true.

Kosta Koufos or Donte Greene. Koufos because I think hes just a career backup that does nothing special. We have Foster, the best backup center in the league in my opinion. Donte Greene has character/motivation problems, and didn't live up to his potential at Cuse. He could be a good player if he puts it together, but where on the Pacers depth chart? Hes another swingman.

Kevin Love defintely is not right for the team, we have Murphy...but he's still pretty damn good. So thats not a nightmare.

Kevin Love, Kosta Koufos, Marreese Speights, Mario Chalmers, JaVale McGee, and Danilo Gallinari are all picks which would make me vomit if we took them.

I would love to see Donte Greene though. I disagree with the above poster.
Rest in Peace, Pacerfan

Kosta Koufos, JaVale McGee, Joe Alexander, Marreese Speights, Donte Green; in that order.

Nobody really disgusts me.

McGee and Koufos do very little for me. McGee put up mediocre numbers in a small conference. That doesn't impress me much. Koufos lacks the athleticism to be anything in the NBA. Unathletic big men are probably the most notorious floppers in the draft.

If Galinari was there at #11, I'd snatch him up in a heart beat. Some people are confusing him with project Euro-prospects like Milicic and Tskitsihvili, which couldn't be further from the truth. He's already a huge star in Italy and it putting up fantastic numbers as a 19 year old. He's as close to a proven commodity as just about anyone in this draft. He's listed at 6'9"-6'10", so I think it's plausible he could be a PF in our system.

McGee, Jordan, Koufos...any of the big guys
I have no idea what you're talking about, and clearly, neither do you.

Kevin Love, sorry I just think he will suck in the NBA. Although I have been wrong before. (see Carlos Boozer)

No nightmares, but I'd be the most worried about Jordan or McGee. I think they have fairly high "bust" potential. But, if we took one of them, I'd focus on his size and athletic ability, and hope for the best.

To a lesser extent, I'll be a bit worried if we end up with Augustin, because I'm not really sold on him, although again I'd look on the bright side and hope he exceeds my expectations.

I'd be really happy if Love fell to us. I think he'd be our best power-position player within two years (after JO is gone), and at a salary nearly $10 million a year less than Murphy's.

DeAndre Jordan is definitely the scariest nightmare. I highly doubt they would draft McGee, but if they did I would personally fire Larry Bird, although it may not be official. They need a point guard and if they don't get one I'd be pretty upset. As long as we get one, even if it's the second round, I'll be okay. I actually can picture hometown guys like Stanley Burrell and George Hill being selected in the second round and having decent careers in the NBA. Burrell is a defensive machine and can even get to the basket almost at will, and draws fouls. While Hill is an all around great player, which we could definitely use at the point guard position.

definitely no love for Kevin Love-- Love would probably be the worst pick for the Pacers, as far as the possible projected picks.

DeAndre Jordan would be the 2nd worst-- he sounds too much like the 2nd coming of David Harrison IMO, and we don't need that with the #11 pick.

Love for sure...although trading up to take OJ Mayo also makes my stomach churn.

Jordan or Love although I'm not sold on Augustin/Westbrook either.

I've been leaning towards wanting Westbrook because of his size and defense, but I'm not so sure.

Augustin put up great stats, was an exceptional player in college, etc. But his size just doesn't do it for me.

If Obie has anything to do with the draft, I think we go with Augustin in order to push the tempo.

I would also be ticked if we chose Kofas or McGee.
Team need? I think it sorely needs a perimeter defender. However, is Westbrook going to be able to play great defense in the NBA?

nightmares? probably Love although any potential BWS would worry me. I also have Gordon as a nightmare because I'm worried about the pressure a local kid would be under to produce too soon. I know I'm alone on that one.
