I am looking to subscribe to a magazine:
1. Sporting News
2. ESPN
3. Sports Illustrated
If you know of any more good ones let me know please. I want something that has some good coverage of the NFL and NBA. Would I get the ESPN membership online to view the members only? Thanks for your help. I appreciate it.

I am an Insider on ESPN.com and they ship me the magazine just because I am a member. I rarely read it, because they ship it to my home address and not my school address and I'm too lazy to change it, but I like what I have read. Good articles, big pictures, some of the best columnists. So colour me a fan of the Worldwide Leader.

I've been a subscriber to ESPN for 5 years, and typically enjoy their issues. They give you up close look at players more so than presenting facts & analysis like an SI issue does. It just depends on what your cup of tea is. However, every once in a while, ESPN will give you a bad issue that is filled with lots of motocross, x-games, etc., and I personally don't really care for that stuff although I'm sure some people do.

Sporting News last.
ESPN is a good pop culture/Sports Mix.
Sports Illustrated is just the standard.
I have been a subscriber of both ESPN and SI for the last 5 years or so, the only big difference in the price. SI is a lot more.
For me, both are cover-to-cover reads.

Quite frankly, I have no use for any of them any more. I mostly use the internet.
I get ESPN because I'm an Insider, but I've always hated it with a fiery passion. It's too slick and poppy, and rarely, if ever, has anything of substance.
SI is OK, but it mostly collects dust until it gets pitched at my house.

I read SI at the dentist's office, and generally enjoy their slightly more substantive news.
I have thumbed through an ESPN several times, and never been terribly impressed.
I can't honestly tell you if I've ever seen a Sporting News.

I'm mostly the same way. I think ESPN pushes the magazine off on Insider subscribers who, by and large, are apathetic towards it. The usefulness of printed materials like magazines is minimal with all the information available on the internet, and most of the stories in the magazines you can read on their respective websites.

Don't get either magazine if you're looking for news (hence Count's comment on the internet).
It sounds cliche, especially considering the Playboy adage, but I get them for the writing.

We can't help you circumvent the subscription. Also, ESPN is pretty aggressive about tracking the IP's that a member is hitting from, and if there's a lot of multiple IP's at the same time, they'll lock up the account.

Yeah, I don't read ESPN the magazine for the news. I read it for the stories and the writing as PP alluded to.

I canceled my SI subscription a couple years ago. I would cancel ESPN too, but then I'd feel guilty every time I put on that snazzy fleece pullover.

SI is the way to go, if not only for the annual Swim Suite Issue

But if you cancel your subscription, wearing your snazzy fleece pullover will then give you the satisfaction of Sticking It To The Man.
I'm like Count, except that I canceled my SI subscription a few years ago. Haven't missed it. I can read all the sports I want for free on the Internet, or else in the sports sections of local newspapers. (I don't buy newspapers for the sports sections, but I read the sports since it's part of the package.)
PacerPerspective does make a good argument about continuing to buy sports magazines for the writing, which is often first-rate. I've kept my subscriptions to other magazines--news magazines, etc.--for that reason, even though I could probably find most of the same information on the Internet.

Do you still use your commemorative football phone from SI?????
