James Jones opts out, bring him back to Indy?

I liked him a lot, and still do. I was thinking that if we offered him the MLE that would be a great signing for IND.
Thoughts?

Jones is a great 3 point shooter and option to be 6th man. I am kind of dissapointed no one else seems interested in him because I think he would be a great fit with TJ's driving ability.

He would be great, but he will cost too much for us to bring back. We are right at 70 million and I doubt management wants to get into luxury cap territory. He was one of the top 3 point shooters last season and will command a healthy contract.

I can't see Jones getting more than the full MLE. Keep in mind, we just took JO's contract off the books. Rasho & Baston will be off next year. I don't think its out of question. Jones is one of few FA that I could actually see coming here.

Anybody who gives Jones the full MLE should have their head examined.
In any case, joe's right...he's a nice player, but we have 15 players and roughly $70mm in cap commitments, which puts us right at the tax. Maybe if some space clears later, but I really kind of doubt it.
He's also another 3, which isn't real high on our priority list.

Agreed, James Jones is a nice player, but I wouldn't give him anything more than 3 million annually.

I'd love to add him, but I agree with PR07 and Count.

Although I tend to loathe everything Indie posts. IM somewhat liking this. IF a few other things happen.
I strongly belive Shawne will be traded for Lowry this season. I also think diogu will be traded for anything. But most importantly Tinsley will be either traded or more likely it is begining to seem bought out.
I said all that to say this if shawne is gone then we really dont have anyone to come in for granger seeing as dunleavy starts. and if we save a little dough on tinisley it would give us that little breathing room to sign him. also bird is all about making fans happy this year and he should be. it might cost them a little more now but if it sells tickets i have to believe they wil do it.
My 08/09 dream team:
Ford/Lowry/Deiner
Dunleavy/Graham
Granger/Jones
Aurthur/Murphy/Baston
Hibbert/Kofus/Nestrovic
Bye Bye JO, Tinsley, Daniels, Diogu, Williams

Foster

You mention the Lowry/Williams trade in every thread. Do you have an inside source? Otherwise, it is purely speculation on your part and just because it makes sense to you doesn't mean that it is a deal that will go down.

Hey Greenway84 if you loathe my post, then don't respond in them. I don't appreciate the unneccessary cheap shot.
I don't go into your threads and talk about how unreallistically stupid your ideas for aquiring the #13 pick are.
So at least give me the respect that I give you. The rest of your post is fine, but the first part was a cheap shot and you know it (and I have never said anything to you to provoke it). Sorry mods, but I don't like that crap.

Well no S#!+ No I don't have an inside source. I'm a Loan officer for a Bank not an ESPN journalist. Hince the reason I said "I strongly
belive Shawne will be traded for Lowry this season." I didn't say I know or I heard or read it or anything like that. I'm just expressing my views on what I
think will happen just like every other Pacer or
SAC town fan does.

LOL. Deal with it. It's not like I'm the only one. I'm still pretty sure your a SAC fan anyway. LOL. Thanks for the laugh Indie. BY the way until you become a Mod don't tell me which parts of my posts are fine and which aren't. Our mods are fully capable of doing what they do well and will do as they see just. NOT YOU!
James Jones...worth a shot?

So, looking at lour current roster, we are already pretty stacked in the small forward category, but I'd still love to see James Jones coming off the bench for the Indiana Pacers again. First of all, his defensive play is awesome, and his three-point shooting is something that we could definitely use. For me the question is, Marquis Daniels or James Jones?

Trade Tinsley to GS for a 2nd round pick, and their trade exempt? Sign Jones?

Nobody wants Tinsley through a trade....if they did...they just wait it out for him to be bought out...then sign him through FA.

But isn't GS over the cap, and thus would be able to take him on when they otherwise wouldn't?

There is a short period (2 days I believe) where if a team picks up his contract they can just add him if they have the cap room. The player has no say in this, and the original team (in this case the Pacers) gets full cap relief from his contract. I've never actually seen that happen though. What actually happens is the teams wait 2 days and then they can sign him to the veteran's minimum contract, while the Pacers are stuck paying his whole contract.
I don't know if Portland will even try to resign James Jones (though I think we should). But I can't see him costing the full mid level. Not with his knees. If you offer him something like a 3 year, $10 million deal you probably got him.

We already have a full roster and are committed to about $66 million in salary for next year, with the luxury tax supposedly at or near $70 million. We already have Dunleavy, Granger, Rush, and Williams at the swing positions. We have 3 40% 3 point shooters already (Dunleavy, Granger, and Murphy is awfully close).
I just don't see the space or need for James Jones right now. Maybe if we dump Marquis Daniels and Shawne Williams out somewhere else, we would have the roster space and the money to sign him, and at that point, he'd be a great option to me. I just don't see the need for him right now.

I still think Williams will be gone before the end of the summer. I could be wrong. I think Williams will be combined with either Daniels, Tinsley, or Nesterovic for an athletic PF. Which I like. And also then it would definatly give reason to bring james jones. that and hes a bada$$.
