Dunleavy is being Shopped?

Chris Mannix, SI.Com wrote:
O'Neal may just be the first domino to fall in Indiana. Sources say Indiana was willing to trade everyone but small forward Danny Granger at the deadline. "They made it clear they were willing to blow it up," a Western Conference executive said. Contrary to reports, front-office sources say the Pacers have been shopping forward Mike Dunleavy -- who is owed $29.3 million over the next three seasons -- while showing some reluctance to part with center Jeff Foster, who is considered a favorite of coach Jim O'Brien.
With O'Neal out of the picture, the Pacers are now in full rebuilding mode. With Ford and the remaining three years and $25 million of his contract now on board, incumbent point guard Jamaal Tinsley is expected to be moved or have the remaining three years and $21.4 million on his contract bought out. Pacers president Larry Bird also told local reporters this week that second-year forward Shawne Williams is "on thin ice."
Ford, however, is a risk. An ultra-quick, streaky-shooting point guard, Ford has the talent to be a 30-to-35-minute starter. But Ford missed 13 games with a neck injury last season, the same injury that caused him to miss all of the 2004-2005 season. There is literally the possibility his career could end at any moment.
For Toronto, acquiring O'Neal means that All-Star power forward Chris Bosh will finally have some help in the frontcourt. Despite an injury-plagued 2007-08 season, it is widely believed that O'Neal's knee problems are not an issue anymore and that had he been playing for a contender, he might have been able to play late last season. While not a pure center, O'Neal averaged 19.6 points and 9.4 rebounds in 2006-07 and, when healthy, is still a force in the pivot.
I thought both Danny and Mike were close to untouachable. This sounds like maybe just Danny.

Honestly no one on this team is untouchable. If the Cavs offered Lebron James to Indiana for Granger straight up, Granger would be on the first plane out of town. Truth is there are very few guys in the league that are untouchable.
Like I said on another thread, I have no issue with trading Dunleavy, but we better be getting back something significant in return. JR had a great year last year, he shot the ball exceptionally well and is as professional as they come on a team with a decent amount of young guys. Other than Foster Dunleavy was my favorite player on the team last year and I hope he is around here for years to come.

I honestly feel unless someone slips we should try to deal 11 to Portland for Jarret Jack and 13.

Chad Ford says Brandon Rush is his dark horse pick at #11. He thinks he'd be a great fit next to TJ Ford.

Dunleavy, Tinsley, and Ike to Miami for Marion would work salary wise.
Would Pacer fans do this trade as is?
It would be a no-brainer if we added picks (ie Dunleavy, Tinsley, Ike, #11 for Marion & #2) but I doubt Miami would take it.
If we threw in Williams, would Pacer fans balk? (ie. Dunleavy, Tinsley, Ike, Williams #11 for Marion and # 2(Beasley)).
I could see Miami pulling off this trade because they obtain smaller pieces rather than one large salary. We all know it is easier to move smaller contracts. Tinsley, Wade, Dunleavy, Haslem isn't a bad place to start rebuilding if you are the Heat. Beasley could help fill O'Neals shoes and get rid of Bird's bad apples with Dunleavy and Ike thrown in.

Yes, Marion and #2 I would take without a doubt, but like you said I doubt Miami would be too interested.

It would take one hell of an offer for us to trade Dunleavy. I think we value him too much, i wouldn't say he's untouchable, but i don't see anyone offering what we valued him as. That will make him as untouchable as he can be i think.

While I am more reconciled to keeping Dunleavy than I was at this time last year, it only makes sense to test the market on him. It is a "sell high" scenario, so if we can get some good value for him, then we should move him.
It's possible they're just "testing the waters".

If they add the #2, goodbye dunleavy. Otherwise, no.

Count, I couldn't agree more. Especially considering his defensive liabilities.

That's one thing that bothers me. Can a Ford-Dunleavy backcourt stop anyone? I mean neither is horrible, but neither is anything more than average. You'd at least like to see one strong defender back there.
I don't really know who you trade Dunleavy to and what exactly you expect to get back. Plus, I think this type of move could rub more fans the wrong way...I mean by all accounts, he's a fan favorite.

Our defense doesn't require individual defending wings. I've explained our defense before here, it's very weird.
Honestly. We are the one team that doesn't require individual defensive stars, so I'm not all that concerned. Our team needs guys that can follow orders and be where they need to be.
Our defense is predicated on filling the paint, and giving up jumpers. The idea is they should be as contested as possible.
Yes. an amazing defender wouldn't hurt, but in all honesty our defense requires guys doing the right thing, getting the hand up, and making the proper rotations.
It's a very difficult defense to master, but it doesn't really matter how good you are. Dunleavy is actually pretty damn prototypical for the player you want on our team.
Tall guy, can get hands on the ball, can run from the paint to a 3 point shooter and bother the shot.
He's protected in our defensive system.

Still, Granger is now expected to be our #1 scorer while guarding the team's best opposing perimeter swingman. That's a lot to ask for. I think getting someone like Rush would take a lot of pressure off Granger because he does a little bit of everything so well. I don't care what system we run, we're still going to struggle stopping someone with our current 1-2 backcourt.

I was thinking of something like this, if we're blowing it up as they say. How about we deal with the Griz I'm still seeing the talk of a Griz deal with the Knicks for the 5th pick & Brian Cardinal, knicks giving Lee and Rose. We can make them a better offer than that, what about Daniels and Shawne plus the #17 for Cardinal, Critt, and #5. Then send #5, Dunleavy, JT, Ike and Foster for Marion, Blount and the #2. They really want to move Blount so Foster replaces him, so Blount is a bit of a negative, question is, Is that enough for Marion and #2? And of course are the Griz really looking to move the #5 to get rid of Cardinal?

We'd be stupid not to do any deal you listed above, but Miami would have no interest at all. Dunleavy, Tinsley, and Ike for Marion? That's a dream deal for us, if for no reason other than getting Marion's expiring contract, but even moreso for the combo he would make with Granger at the SF/PF position.
Dunleavy, Tinsley, Ike, Williams, and #11 for Marion and #2? We could only be so lucky. Alas, Miami would be stupid to consider it though.
