Jamont Gordon (All Undrafted Guys)

Post#1 » by Crossova21 » Fri Jun 27, 2008 12:24 pm

He didn't get drafted and was considered and early to mid 2nd round pick. Any chance he'll be in a Pacers uniform?

Hey, I think there are a number of guys like this, so I'm going to sticky it and open it up...hope ya don't mind.

First...at present, we've got 16 guys under contract, so I don't think there's a huge chance of anybody making it, but I've got three names to throw in the hat:

Mike Green, Butler
Stanley Burrell, Xavier
Robert Vaden, UAB (?)

I say give 'em a look.

PG: Ford, Jack, Diener (and Tinsley is still under contract)
SG: Dunleavy, B. Rush, Daniels
SF: Granger, Williams, Graham (and all three of the SGs could probably play here too)
PF: Murphy, Baston, McRoberts
C: Foster, Nesterovic, Hibbert

To me, that looks like a pretty tough roster for an undrafted free agent to crack. Mayyyyybe there is a sliver of daylight for a backup power forward to play his way onto the team. But that's about it.

Granted, the Pacers may not be done making moves this summer. In fact, I expect something else to happen (beyond what now looks like an inevitable buyout of Tinsley). That could free a spot up.

But really, what we need now is not role-playing backups, but more firepower at the top--a better starting five. The undrafted free-agent pool is a pretty unpromising place to look for what we need.

I don't know of any player whom went undrafted but could be a big help. Like Mizzou mentioned, we need firepower and undrafted players usually don't provide much of that hence why they are undrafted. If we were looking for D off the bench, the pool of the undrafted might be a place to look but otherwise, I don't see much help there.

Normally, I'd be clamoring for us to sign someone, but this might be the deepest Pacer team in years. I see us making a two or three for one trade soon to get some of our body count down.

Here are two guys I really like:

Mike Green, Butler (reminds me of poor man's Jarrett Jack)

DeMarcus Nelson, Duke

We just need a PF that can score in the Low-Post. Every other position is covered. What decent PF is left that didn't get drafted?

Xavier's Josh Duncan is still out there. He's a PF but more in the vein of Murphy.

Chris "Teddy" Daniels from Texas A&M Corpus Christie could be a good replacement for the Hulk as "the Project".

Also, Pat Calathes really fits our style of play to a T. He could be Jeff Foster, the sequal, with ore offense.

Good call on Pat Calathes. I really like him, and I'm a little surprised he didnt get drafted.

I really like Burrell. He is a hometown kid with the reputation of being a great perimiter defender. I think we should give him a look.

I think Lofton is under-rated, but I just don't see us having room for him. I think we need the most help in the post, not on the perimeter.

Mike Green was just picked up by the Cavaliers for their summer league team.

At least he's getting a shot.
