Pacers get Udonis Haslem
Miami gets Jeff Foster
Trade ID #4697534
Salaries work, Miami gets the inside presence they so DESPERATELY need and Indiana gets a floor spreading, hard nosed pf.

To be quite Honest I think Miami is in the same position. Haslem is the team captain and an extremely hard worker/familiar face. Im just going based on teams needs which is why I like it, and i'm sure why you do as well

I'd honestly rather keep Foster, although I'd love to add Haslem to this roster. If we could do something centered around Marquis Daniels, I'd gladly do it.

Miami doesn't need another SG. We need a Center. It's not that we're trying to get rid of Haslem for whatever in return, it would only be to fill a roster hole.

Foster was a PF when he came into the NBA. He's not great there now, but if push comes to shove we can play him there. It gives us a little more flexibility. Also, before this week I might strongly consider this deal and maybe it's just that Heat fans are more realistic but usually when we have a hole to fill or are shopping a player we get a lot of offers from other teams' fans that are downright nauseating and all we've got from the Heat is Haslem. Maybe because they have Beasley now, but I'm really wondering why they're all coming over here offering Haslem if he's really worth what they say they think he is. Why aren't they on other boards trying to pull off a Haslem for Dwight Howard trade?

As usual, I'm with Scoot. I'm too much of a fan of Foster, but I'd love to get Haslem. I'd even deal Shawne.

no way. Foster can play both 4 and 5. Haslem can't defend the 5. Haslem has a better mid range shot but I'm not giving up Jeff for this. I'll bet if you really want to trade him in February, you'll be able to get a much better deal.

I feel like if we deal Foster, we have to get a very nice booty in return for him. He is probably the most popular Pacer and represents everything Bird and O'Brien look for in a player--tough, solid defender, always gives a full effort, stays out of trouble off the court, etc. A player like Haslem wont get it done I'm afraid. Its one of those cases where he has more value to us than you.

I love Foster and want to keep him, but why is everyone saying he can play the 4? I don't see that in him. I mean, if we had a post up banger at the 5 I could understand, but we don't.

Foster is a prototypical 4. The traditional job for a power forward was to rebound, play some defense, and generally take some pressure off the center. It's only in the last decade or so that the power forward position has usurped the offensive post roles traditionally reserved for the center position.
For all the claiming that he wasn't, when JO was at his peak, he really played the center position offensively. The same is true of Tim Duncan. He is playing the 5 role on offense, while somebody else mans it defensively.
Both Foster and Murphy are more suited, by size and game, to play the 4. As to the center they need to play next to them, they'd really be better off with a mobile shotblocker than a post up banger. JO was more effective defensively next to Foster than he was next to Miller because Foster could guard the other team's best post player, allowing JO to roam freer as a help defender.
Foster would be an excellent complement, in my opinion, next to Hibbert or Rasho with his quickness and instinct.

I take Haslem for Foster deal every day of the week. It makes a bunch of sense for both sides. Both are good character, locker room guys.. Both open up spots for young players and fill personnel needs.

I like the deal. Haslem fits the offense better than Foster. Both teams would take this deal.
