Ignite the Passion. Restore the Pride.
GAME. SET. RUSH.
How does it feel to be a National Champion?
It’s great. It was important for my team and for our fans because Kansas hasn’t had a title in 20 years. We were glad to give it to them.
Besides the title, what is your fondest basketball memory?
When I was in seventh grade, I broke the goal. It was a 10-foot goal! I just went up and tore the whole thing down. It was a big step for me.
What about Draft night?
It was very special for me and my family. Hearing my name was one of the proudest moments I’ve ever had. I’m just glad to be here in Indy. Being able to talk to Larry Bird, one of the greatest players ever, is a great experience.
You’re from Kansas City. Was it important for you to stay in the Midwest?
It definitely makes it easier because my family can come see me play whenever they want. It’s not that far of a flight.
What are your memories of the Pacers?
Reggie Miller! I call him “Big Shot Reggie” because he always made the big shot. He went to the gym every day and had a great work ethic. I’m just trying to follow in his footsteps right now.
Are there any other professional athletes you admire?
Roger Federer. I love to watch tennis. I admire Federer’s style of play. He’s so laid back and never shows too much emotion. That’s the type of player I am on the basketball court. I never get too rowdy or anything. I am very quiet on the court.
What about off the court?
I’m not a guy that’s always going out. I’m the type of guy that likes to just chill and play video games.
Finish this sentence: “If you asked my family, they’d say I’m…?”
Laid back, quiet, shy.
You worked with kids while playing at Kansas. Will you continue that work as a Pacer?
Definitely! At Kansas we got to go out and work with special needs kids about two times a year. I’ve always been a big part of stuff like that, and I like doing it.
Do you see yourself having a family of your own someday?
Yes I do.
Do you have any pets?
Not yet. I’m allergic to most animals but I really want a pet monkey.

The "pet monkey" comment scares me. Hope he doesn't name it Bubbles or turns into Michael Jackson.
Other than that, the one thing I've noticed is that I think video games are going to save the Pacers franchise. You heard me. Danny and now Brandon have both mentioned that they'd rather stay at home and play video games than go out to clubs. Seriously, that could save our franchise. I'd include a free PS3, Wii, or Xbox360 in every new contract we sign with players.

Good stuff. I remember when Danny was talking about how he doesn't even pass in the NBA games, just drops 50 with himself.
Oh man, I'd love to get their gamertags.

A while ago I went to jillians for my buddies bachelor party and saw danny up there just hanging out and playing video games. It was pretty cool just to see him up there. I didn't want to bother him, it looked like he was on a date. There are only 2 other Pacers I've seen out in public and that was Smits and Haywood Workman.
BOOOOOOOOM BABY!!!!!!!!.......ITS MILLER TIME.

I saw Dale Davis in the clubs back in the 90's . even though he can look intamidating, he was always a cool cat, we would talk for a few minutes on pacers, women in the club etc.
really down to earth guy. They dont get much better than DD. On a side note while I was in college I worked John Starks basketball camp as the athletic trainer. He was the most humble, down to eatrth guy. Took all the staf out for bowling and drinks, acted like he was "one of us". Had absolutely no ego. I love people that dont have to be humble, but enjoy it anyway

Re: GAME. SET. RUSH.
I live out in Boston, and I saw Scott Pollard out here. Like most others, I didn't bother him because he was with his family.
I've talked to Patrick Ewing. Actually it was pretty funny. I used to work for the TSA. He came through the checkpoint I was working at, and this was right when they started the liquid ban at the airports. Every other person basically had to have their bags checked. I saw him approaching and I was saying "please don't have anything" in my head. Sure enough he had like 6 bottles of water. So I had to open his bag. He was with his wife and seemed to be in a good mood. Being the diehard Pacers fan that I am, I had to say something.
So as I was pulling out his waters, I looked at him and said "You know, I always hated you guys...and Reggie is the man." He laughed and said back to me "Man, I hate Reggie." Then his wife chimed in and hit him and said "No you don't! You love him!" To which he replied, "Well now I do, but man he used to drive me crazy."
Needless to say, it was probably the highlight of my time with TSA, and I'll certainly never forget it. He was really cool. And gigantic.

That is a cool ass story. At Stark's camp, Ewing came the last day to spaeak to the kids. He pulls up in an all white SL 6oo V12. AS soon as the speech was done , he jets out the back door. I stopped to try and talk to him, knowing that the camp is over, and he basically shtted on me and didnt respond. I cant speak for all times, but that day he was a %#@&*!! lol

Whatup SJax, I used to post over there too, then Grang33r brought me here. I forget what my name was there, it may have been this - though I started out as BigJones20, I hated that and changed it soon after though.

Seriously, not exaggerating , Starks camp was up in Purchase NY, about 30 Minutes from Westchester. He was there all 7 days, talked with the kids, and was real. Oh true story , I got a chance to play 5 on 5 with Starks and a few knicks and the rest of the traing staff. I was on the other team, not with John Starks. He rebounds the ball, starts sprinitng up court. Now I am back behind the half court line in a defensive stance as he is pushing the ball up court on the break. Starks comes right towards me full speed, Im in position liooking helpless. He continues at full speed , then dribbles the ball through my legs, passes me and keeps his dribble then goes on to throw down a viscious revere dunk!! Talk about humble pie, I was red as blood in the face, meanwhile he jogs back down court grinning at me.
Guess thats why I was a trainer. lol

Very cool stories! I need to get in your line of work. Playing in a game with an NBA player would be something I would never forget.

Re: GAME. SET. RUSH.
Thanks, It was kind of blind luck, The head athletic trainer at LIU Brooklyn (my alma mater) had connections from working with the knicks and he set up the interview. I couldn't belive though that day after camp when we started lacing up.
