OT: Ron Artest Traded to Rockets

Post#1 » by xxSnEaKyPxx » Wed Jul 30, 2008 12:25 am

Ron artest just got traded to the Rockets for Bobby Jackson, a 1st round pick, and a player to be named - probably Donte Greene.

This is crazy, the Rockets gave up hardly anything, what happens to Battier now?

What's even crazier is the demand Donte Greene has. The kid, was drafted by Memphis, then traded to Portland for Darrell Arthur. Then Portland traded him to Houston for Batum and now he's going to Sac town for Artest. lol

But i think their deal is better then what we got. All we received was Peja and we knew we were not keeping him long term and that it was only a rental. The Kings get rid of that nut case and get Greene and a 1st rounder, and fan favorite Bobby Jackson.

Great move by Houston, they will be a force next year. Battier has a good shot to be 6th man of the year.

Lol that is a nice move by Houston though. They get him for basically nothing.

Lakers should've gotten him.

I guess this means either Battier or Artest is going to play a lot of 4.

ron ain't crazy, he's just misunderstood!

anywho... this is actually a pretty darn good deal for sacramento - they get a first rounder and donte green! i mean, artest is going to be a free agent - who knows whether he will even want to play for houston by this time next year? for the rockets this is definitely a high risk, high reward type deal.

Nice one, Houston. The Kings probably had enough with Artest.
I don't know but my first thought upon knowing of the trade was Francisco Garcia (?). Maybe because he's gonna get a lot more playing time now. I'd like to see him win the starting spot over Salmons.

Battier would be a very very serviceable back-up. I doubt he can play the 4 though.

The sad part is, the list could literally go on, I didn't even get into how he is "Camera throwing crazy."

He has worn off his welcome at every stop hes had in his career. Usually, he is happy with his new team for about a year, so Houston has a one year run with him. They had better hope Yao and T-Mac are healthy for the playoffs, because this is their year to make a title run.

I think he really has a mental problem and needs treatment for it. My favorite was when he was a rookie in Chicago. He went to Circuit City and applied for a job, just to get the employee discount on the latest things.

Should we make predictions on how long it will take to have Ron's picture on the front of a sports page with the cliche' caption of "Houston: We have a problem"???

Excellent deal by Houston. I think Ron will stay in line playing 3rd fiddle to Tracy and Yao so I don't expect to see any "Houston: We Have A Problem" lines...

As for the Rockets fan question, Ron can be a bit crazy. I'm a big fan and I doubt he is truly "crazy" but he does do some things that are quite odd to put it nicely. I think you'll be happy with him though. I think with a mature group like Houston seems to have from an outsider perspective, he will be fine and you'll end up with a steal. If you think Battier can play D, just wait till Ron gets on the court. He may not get a ton of steals but he puts a lock on his opponent.

Good move for the Rockets...Ron makes sense for a team that likely was looking at making one last swipe with Yao/TMac before probably breaking them up anyway. The other team Artest would've made a ton of sense for was Phoenix. In fact, they should've tried that deal instead of the Shaq deal.

Ron's an "All-in, All-Up" type of move. If you're willing to push all your chips in the middle and accept losing them, he makes sense. The key with Ron this year is keeping him from getting too distracted about his contract ending.
I have no idea what you're talking about, and clearly, neither do you.

Houston, you have a problem.

OK, I shamelessly stole that from pacersdigest, but it had to be said.

To the Rockets fan who asked, Artest is IMO completely certifiable. But the crazy sumbitch is also a really good basketball player. Make sure he takes his meds and hope for the best. But it's only worth a one-year gamble; no way in hell should he be re-signed because it is only a matter of time before he destroys your team from within.

Allow me to comtinue:

Dennis Rodman's number-wearing crazy.
Franchise destroying crazy.
Pet-starving Wife-beating crazy.
Purple crazy.
Wants to retire from basketball two years ago crazy.
Asks for trades to the 1997 Chicago Bulls crazy.

He's going to start with Battier. Ron plays the 4 better than Battier does. I could see them both starting, because Yao pretty much has the inside anchored, Ron doesn't need to do too much in the way of low-post banging, but he'll defend it on the other side.
