PG market is nearing Tinsley trade....

Post#1 » by DWCP2 » Sun Aug 3, 2008 4:16 pm

Jannero Pargo -- About to sign with Spurs.

Carlos Arroyo -- Signed with Macabi Tel Aviv.

Jason Williams -- considering overseas; Phoenix???

Jamaal Tinsley

Stephon Marbury

Luke Ridnour

Flip Murray

Earl Boykins -- considering overseas

Dan Dickau -- considering overseas

Once Pargo goes and Memphis settles their PG situation, it could very well be down to trading for Tinsley or trading for Marbury.

The day could very well be getting close.

Good luck to you guys with that. Hopefully you can send him to a bottom-dweller for all of the times he has bailed on you.

There are two better questions:

1) What teams need PG help?
2) What teams need PG help AND would be willing to take on 3yr/$20+ mil to solve the problem?

Guys like Sean Singleton are going to be on the free agent market soon, and I'm sure many teams would be more than willing to give guys like him the opportunity to earn a backup spot since he'd only cost about $450 grand to a team instead of 3 years and $20 million or so.

Are we not going to go for Pargo? He has some quick-strike ability that we seem to need, and he'd make good backup at both guard spots.

Why would we? We already got Jarret Jack to be the backup combo guard, and we already don't have a roster spot for Pargo.

I honestly don't think anyone will trade for him this season. Most teams are set at point guard, and the few who aren't have other, less expensive options. I think we're stuck with him.

I'd say Delonte West bolting from the Cavs and GM Danny Ferry panicking is probably our best hope.

If Tinsley cooperates with the team as a backup, I wouldn't mind having him there, actually. If he keeps clean off the court and plays well with the second unit, I wouldn't mind having him as the primary backup.

Of course, the two ifs are huge here. There's a 1% chance that both actually happen. What's the word from the front office on Tinsley?

That is pretty much where I am at with it. Many teams have already found solutions at PG, some better than others, and I don't see anyone dealing for him. If a deal does happen, I expect to take back salary just as bad as JTs and get a lower quality player. Like I said though, I don't like the chances of any deal happening involving JT before the season starts. If he keeps himself in playing shape, I could see a deal near the trade deadline as teams are trying to improve but still cannot see anything but an equally bad contract coming back our way.

Dont forget about all of the teams with a surplus of PG's. Just off the top of my head, the Bulls and OKC would have much better situations to trade for than Tinsley.

We basically have to hope that somebody out there is going to be stupid. Fortunately for us, many have become rich just by banking on the stupidity of other.
I have no idea what you're talking about, and clearly, neither do you.

Basically Bird believes that if Tinsley is about the game and not about the money then he will find a way to get himself traded. Certainly there is no restraint on him talking to other teams to get a deal done.

Yup. I've been pretty jacked up on pain pills lately. At least it's showing. Guess they're good for something.

Better...Yes!

But like the old saying goes...it takes talent to get talent. Guys higher then Tinsley regardless of talent will prove to be costly.

I'd keep an eye on the Knicks w/ Duhon and Roberson. If they struggle early to run D'Antoni's offense, I could see Tinsley getting a little play, especially if we include on of our expiring deals.

Orlando's thin at the pg spot with only Anthony Johnson as the reserve pg. But i think both Indiana and Orlando doesn't have the right package of guys to make it work though.
