This is going to be the fifth in our series of projections and discussions about all of our players this year. Essentially, we'll go through all 15 Pacers (I'm excluding Droopy) and talk about our expectations. Each poster will cut and paste form below and fill it out, adding their reasoning at the bottom. The reasoning is the most important, as it will help the conversation.
The first five guys will go up today, and they will be the fringe players. Then will come the rotational players, then we'll get to our key players. If you're looking to do a little research on the guys, I'd suggest BBR as the best statistical site.
So, here we start with:
Marquis Daniels
Games Played:
Games Lost To Injury:
DNP-CD's:
Minutes per Game:
Points per Game:
Rebounds per Game:
Assists per Game:
FG%:
3FG%:
FT%:
Other Key Stats (can be Steals, Blocks, TO's, A/TO ratio, etc.)
Reasoning/Synopsis: Describe why you think this player will provide these numbers. What will his role be? What's his best-case? What's his worst-case?
Lets get started. (We'll let these percolate for a couple of days, then get the next five up.)

I think that Daniels' standing on the team is pretty tenuous, so I'm not going to take the time to guess numbers on him.
Overall, my guess is that if healthy--a big "If" in his case--Daniels will start the season as Dunleavy's backup at two guard. From there, it will be up to him to hold off Rush. Maybe he holds onto the backup spot all season, or could be he is ringing up long strings of DNPs by December.
I think that the Pacers are looking forward to Daniels' contract expiring next summer, so most likely Rush will be given every opportunity to supplant him in the rotation. It just remains to be seen how quickly Rush is ready.

If he stays with the pacers he'll get a lot of DNPs maybe 40, lose 20 due to injury, score 6 pts a game, 2 rbs and 2 asts his shooting % will stink low 40 at best.
i can't see him playing much after jan 09 looking at Rush and jack comming past him Daniels could get traded or just ride the bench until the end of the yr for some cap relief next season.

I think in this contract year he's going to surprise. look for him to be a regular part of a second unit with Jack and Rush or Shawne.

Re: What Will They Do? (#5 - Marquis Daniels)
Games Played: 53
Games Lost To Injury: 15
DNP-CD's: 14
Minutes per Game: 10.0
Points per Game: 5.2
Rebounds per Game: 1.7
Assists per Game: 0.9
FG%: 39%
3FG%: 35%
FT%: 72%
Other Key Stats: None of any import
Marquis will be something of a bellweather. If he's playing a lot more than this, than it's likely bad news. It probably means that Brandon Rush isn't producing or that a key member of the team (Danny, Junior, TJ) is hurt, or worse, playing poorly. His increased play could also be an indicator of a "win now" philosophy taken too far.
His greatest value is that of an expiring, and I would love to see him be the guy we packaged with Droopy, but that's probably wishful thinking.
