Granger, Tinsley moves will be made

Post#1 » by greenway84 » Wed Sep 10, 2008 9:48 pm

Having gathered more than a few headlines this summer for what they have done, the Pacers have been under a bit of scrutiny lately for what they have not.

They haven't traded, cut, bought out or otherwise made Jamaal Tinsley go away. They haven't signed Danny Granger to a contract extension.

Not yet, anyway.

When anticipated events take longer than expected, it's natural to develop a concern they might not happen at all.

But see, here's the thing: they will.

Not any real news. Except for maybe that we may not resign Danny until next offseason it sounds. But I am confident that Larry gets a trade done for Tinsley. 100% No Doubt! Qoute me if you want. He will be traded before the break!

Nice pluck, Heres what I got.

If they extend Granger first, whatever cap space they might've had would vanish.

Solid point, and good for Bird and Co if this is why they are waiting.

"Jamaal will not be on our team this year."

Larry is going to have Tinsley "disposed" of never to be heard from again. :D

a contract year often helps get the best out of a player.

Doesn't it always! Show me the money :D

There have been a few trade rumors out there, the most prevalent involving Miami and Golden State. Both teams have a serious need at point guard and both have the requisite pieces to make the deal work. When you take a 180-degree look at this, it's really not that hard to see why a team would be interested in Tinsley. When healthy, he's a proven creator who can score as much as needed or as little as wanted and his remaining contract (roughly $21 million over three years) is manageable. He's a gamble, sure, but relatively low-risk for a veteran backup.

Ha ha more amunition for the GS Board! :D kidding mods

Bird pointed out the Olympics actually proved a deterrent to trade talks, what with so many team officials in China for an extended period of time.

Understandably why thinks are slow! Nice info though

Nice read. I get on here every day just waiting to see "Breaking news: Tinsley traded to..." Can't wait until the day when I stop dreaming and comes to reality.

While I understand the idea of waiting to resign Granger, I personally would rather just get it done and not worry about it... Not to mention we will likely not be a destination where some top FA would want to sign...

i disagree. Danny has openly said how much he wants to be hee for the forseable future. Why go be a starter on another team. When for the same money you can be a franchise player.

Meh. If ding dong reporters or bloggers are our gold standard, then I'm sure I can find plenty of support for Granger becoming a Knick.

Well, to be accurate, he's a ding dong mouthpiece for the organization. Conrad Brunner is actually employed by the Pacers.

While I don't think it adds any credibility to any GS rumor, the broad message included can be considered as the one Bird & the Pacers are trying to send. That is, Granger will be extended/re-signed but maybe not 'til next summer & Tinsley is gone.
I have no idea what you're talking about, and clearly, neither do you.

The more I read about Bird talking about Tinsley as if he is already gone, the more I am convinced that there is a deal in place and Bird is just looking at other options.

Bird is speaking with absolute confidence when he says Tinsley will not be on the roster before the regular season and we will not buy him out. He did something similar hinting to trading for 2 PG's before the draft was over. As it stands now, its probably not a good deal for us for Bird to be looking elsewhere, but that is to be expected. Also, I know Warriors fans hate Tinsley, but if there was a deal in place, maybe someone leaked the Al for Tinsley rumor, or maybe it was one of the other deals Bird was working on. I don't know, but I am truly starting to believe Tinsley will be gone before the season. I hold my breath everytime the NBA news comes up at the bottom of ESPN.

I think that if the IND-GSW deal was in place, it would be done, b/c even with out one of those young guys, which will not be included, that deal is to good to be true, IMO... And I think that if there was any deal in place, it would be done and over with before the other team has a chance to realize what they are doing... I do, however, think that there may be a few legit teams showing interest... I am not entirely convinced that JT will be gone by the start of the season, let alone camp, but personally I would not be to upset, as I understand the logistics in trying to deal Tinsley... I think that it is more realistic to say that he will be gone by the trading deadline....

I guess that author has never heard of a cap hold.
"Thibs called back and wanted more picks," said Jorge Sedano. "And Pat Riley, literally, I was told, called him a mother-bleeper and hung up the phone."

I don't think a Pacers/Warriors deal is in place either, I'm just saying, I wouldn't be surprised if that rumor was true.
